While that may be true, that is not the true meaning of extroversion. Basically, an extrovert is a person who is energized by being around other people. This is the opposite of an introvert who is energized by being alone.
They kept 48 volunteers awake for 36 hours, with some allowed to mix with others, the journal Sleep reports. Those defined as introverts did better at staying awake and in reaction tests. And those extroverts who were denied social contact also did well, suggesting it is "social stimulation" that tires out the parts of the extroverts' brains linked to alertness. The study involved 48 people aged 18 to 39, who were divided into two roughly equal groups following personality type screening, which defined whether they were natural extroverts or introverts. After a good night's sleep, they remained awake for a day and a half, with various tests each hour to measure the effects of lack of sleep. Some of the test subjects - both introverts and extroverts - were allowed to take part in group discussions, and play board games and puzzles for 12 hours of the 36. The others were not allowed any such social interaction. First of all, the test subjects who were "socially enriched" in this way were tested to see if there was any difference between the natural extroverts and introverts. While there was little difference in one of the tests, in which volunteers had to push a button as soon as possible in response to a light, introverts fared better in a "maintenance of wakefulness test", which checks whether sleep-deprived people are able to stay awake over a set period of time. The extroverts in that group did badly in the test, but the extroverts in the second group - those denied social contact - performed markedly better. this is vital information
Introverts aren't as natural though.
Introverts aren't as natural though.
Depends mostly on your environment growing up.
I'm not sure what I would be classified as. I like being alone, but I like being with good friends. I'm very productive alone.
this is good news for us FPers
I'm not very productive ever.
This is one of those things that should have gone without saying.
This is eye-opening information
I can sleep better at night knowing this
Explains my life. Extrovert. I like it.
I'm not sure what I would be classified as. I like being alone, but I like being with good friends. I'm very productive alone.
You're likely an introvert, I mean you're posting on facepunch
...not that this matters to anyone who's an FP regular anyway.
So all news must be related to facepunch?
Feels good to be an introvert and working off of 3-5hrs of sleep on a daily basis.
Feels good to be an introvert and working off of 3-5hrs of sleep on a daily basis.
But Richard, that lack of sleep will go straight to your thighs
There a several different personality types...its hard to tell whether or not you're an introvert or extrovert...sometimes both.
it takes the army to man up to make a statement whereas this is taught to you in like the first day of psychology class hahaha
I'm not sure what I would be classified as. I like being alone, but I like being with good friends. I'm very productive alone.
Unless you have some psychological disorder you should like being friends with people, the difference is if you're more productive if you're alone or with people. [editline]1st November 2010[/editline]
Feels good to be an introvert and working off of 3-5hrs of sleep on a daily basis.
3 hours is unhealthy. Unless you partake in a polyphasic sleep cycle.
introvert represent
I'm like 50/50. What does this MEAN
So all news must be related to facepunch?
I mean the results of the research. :v: FP is pretty much all introverts.
I mean the results of the research. :v: FP is pretty much all introverts.
I doubt it. I pretty sure most of the users of this forum have steady social lives, not to mention, conversing on a forum does count [somewhat] as a form of extroversion.
I can believe the "social stimulation" thing. When I'm by myself, I can go through the night with no trouble. [editline]1st November 2010[/editline] And I don't mean "through the night by myself", in case anyone was wondering.
Good job I am neither friendly nor outgoing. Sleep loss doesn't hit me as hard.
