At current the rebels just got pushed back to Surt after trying to take gaddafi's home town. I put this up becasue it affects all of us either directly if you have family in Libya or indirectly, Rising fuel costs due to Middle-East instability. government airstrikes hit the town of Ras Lanouf and ground troops loyal to Gaddafi retook the town of Bin Jawwad, about 110 miles east of Gaddafi's hometown and stronghold of Sirte, which could prove to be a decisive battleground.

I'm up for the Rebels (Provided some nut job who hates europe or something doesn't get in.) they seem to have a better cause! Fighting for their freedom and democracy!
With the US and UK waiting to step in and france, germany and other countries taking a more catious approach, it will be intresting to see how this pans out. The best thing you can do to show support for the people, not just in the middle-East but all over the world is too pay attention and keep updated and don't stop paying attension when the leader crushes the revolt or the rebels get there power because that is the most important time in a country's new Era.
UPDATE: While the world's attention has been focussed on the dramatic news coming out of Libya, in neighbouring Egypt the protest movement that forced President Hosni Mubarak to step down last month has dealt what may turn out to be the knock-out blow to his regime. Within the past 48 hours Egyptian protesters have stormed the headquarters of the secret police in Cairo, Alexandria and elsewhere.
UPDATE: NATO has stated it will not intervene unless crimes against humanity are made although considerations are bing made for a No-Fly zone.
UPDATE: Amr Moussa, head of the Arab League, has called on Col Gaddafi to begin "immediately" a "process of reconciliation with his people" if he wants to stay in power. Speaking to French media, he added: "But I do not think the people will let that happen, and that's sad."
UPDATE: Nineteen people including a two-year-old girl were killed by Gaddafi forces at Misrata today, an eyewitness called Mohamed told the BBC. The fighting lasted nine hours, he said. Government forces finally "ran away like rats, leaving behind their jeeps and armoured vehicles".
UPDATE: The rebels defending Bin Jawad would certainly welcome an international no-fly zone. "We only want planes, but we want nothing else," one told the Associated Press. "They should only come in with planes, but we don't want them to come into our country with troops on the ground." Another said: "We ask European countries for just one thing: to enforce a no-fly zone and block passage by sea. That's it. We only ask for this."
UPDATE: The UN has demanded "urgent access" to the rebel city of Misrata, which has come under heavy shelling by government forces and where a UN envoy said the "injured and dying" needed immediate help, AFP reports.
FINAL UPDATE FOR 06/03/11: It's been a day of intensified fighting in Libya, with forces loyal to Col Gaddafi mounting strong counter-attacks against rebel-controlled areas. As things stand, there appears to be a stalemate, with government forces in control of the west of the country, while the mood among the rebels in control of much of the east remains grim, but defiant.
UPDATE: Al-Jazeera has just reported that Col Gaddafi is to hold a people's congress to let him stand down with guarantees. There have been various unverified rumours to this effect on Twitter today. Is this the end of the fighting libya?
FINAL UPDATE 07/03/11: The rebels rejected the deal as it would mean an "honourable" exit for Col Gaddafi, Reuters quotes the channel as saying.
BREAKING NEWS 08/03/11: Rebels have moved within a few miles of Surt/Sirt on the coast with Govt renforcments "Few and far between" but in other news Bin Jawad was taken back by Pro-Govt troops this morning. Fighting is at an all time high in the country and with NATO and the UN drawing up international sanctions for a no fly zone the Fight might have just got a little more fair.
Breaking NEWS 10/03/11: As the Rebels get pushed back further to the east its looking hopeless for the rebels but Nicolas Sarkozy will on Friday urge "targeted air strikes" on Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's key military command headquarters as EU and Nato splits emerged over preparations for military intervention in Libya and thus put the Rebels in a strong position to take Gaddafi out and liberate the country.
Breaking NEWS 10/03/11: Britain just joined france in the calls for "targeted air strikes" on Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's key military command headquarters.
The map was done under my understanding of the current situation.
Great news source.

It's not as clear cut as your map makes out.
The West should just fly some bombers over and help out.
One first world country could easily win against the Libyan government without sending over a single soldier on the ground.
It would help the world if Gaddafi was taken out of the equation.
Whoo. Go Rebels. :toot:
FYI it's spelled Cause not "coz"
It wouldn't be nice to post disgonbgud.gif, right?
Still, shit hit the fan pretty quickly.

I hope you mean the government and not the rebels.
I hope you mean the government and not the rebels.
Well no shit. I hope the rebels can do this :ohdear:
I think USA shouldn't put their troops there, because if Libyans can fight for their rights, they can run the country.
Well no shit. I hope the rebels can do this :ohdear:
I was unclear. I mean I want the rebels to win. Not the government running their people 6 feet into the ground.

I think this map is a bit more accurate, OP.
I hope you mean the government and not the rebels.
Of course.
Who is winning, the reapers or the ular boys?
Who is winning, the reapers or the ular boys?
Too early to tell!
As unfortunate and tragic as this is, my inner EVE/Fallout/STALKER/Borderlands/Freelancer/Evochron/etc player can't help but fantasize over the fact that factions are in control of various regions.
Hoping the rebels succeed, though, it's retarded what's going on in Libya.
The Saudi Arabian Govt has just banned protesting in the fear of civil unrest spilling into saudi arabia. Will civil was spill into other N. African countries?

As unfortunate as it may be, the US will NEVER let some sort of revolution occur in Saudi Arabia. We have way too much at stake there.
Let's go Rebels!

I'm guessing green is pro government and red is the rebels.
Are there any significances to the other colors?
Rebels just provoke sympathy, after all, everyone loves an underdog whom fights against vastly superior forces.
Who is winning, the reapers or the ular boys?
The great bolo santosi will lead the reapers to victory!
yea but this http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/inte...st-gaddafi-map is the best i've seen and i made that map last night while being very ignorant!
