Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and his wife, Jane Sanders have hired prominent defense attorneys amid an FBI investigation into a loan Jane Sanders obtained to expand Burlington College while she was its president, CBS News confirms. Politico Magazine first reported the Sanders had hired lawyers to defend them in the probe. Sanders' top adviser Jeff Weaver told CBS News the couple has sought legal protection over federal agents' allegations from a January 2016 complaint accusing then-President of Burlington College, Ms. Sanders, of distorting donor levels in a 2010 loan application for $10 million from People's United Bank to purchase 33 acres of land for the institution. wow, fuck them if this is true I really wanted to believe in his integrity and all
wow, fuck them if this is true I really wanted to believe in his integrity and all
Nothing has been proved yet
This breaks my heart. I'm awaiting for the final result before jumping to any conclusions.
A black splotch is always the most visible on a white canvas.
wow, fuck them if this is true I really wanted to believe in his integrity and all
innocent till proven guilty
Huh, this is really interesting to see how this develops
A friend of mine once had a political tirade about Sanders having a secret agenda with some "friends" in wall street. Hope he wasn't right.
A friend of mine once had a political tirade about Sanders having a secret agenda with some "friends" in wall street. Hope he wasn't right.
yeah I don't see what this has to do with wall street
Not to say the allegations are completely fake, but the attorney who requested the investigation is Brady Toensing, chairman of the Trump campaign in Vermont and a partner in his parent's law firm specializing in conservative causes. His mother was active in the Goldwater campaign, where the southern strategy was developed and tested. (the southern strategy used racism to appeal to angry whites who opposed the dismantling of jim crow laws and passage of civil rights laws)
It'd be disappointing if it turns out to be true but hiring an attorney doesn't suggest guilt at all. It'd be the logical course of action for anyone who can afford it.
Sen. Sanders, formerly mayor of Burlington, Vermont's largest city, regards the claims as a political game levied against him after his run for president in the 2016 primary election, a platform which has transformed the small-state senator into an influential voice in American liberal politics.
I do have to say though that it would surprise me less if this claim turned out to be true rather than the accusations against the Sanders (Sanderses?).
If this proves to be a case and even if he and his wife are guilty, I will still side them. Only because his policies are still good answers for facing most American issues. Im probably bet that Maybe his wife had done fucked up with something if its true. But it seems the allegations of Bernie forcing the bank to give her a loan seems to be politically motivated
The title feels a bit misleading, the article says the investigation is into his wife, and not into him himself. He could play into it eventually, but right now, it's all about his wife.
Given what Mr. Someguy said and the integrity that Sanders seems to just exude from the roots of his very being, I have a hard time worrying about this. Hiring an attorney to defend oneself against baseless accusations - or accusations at all - is just what you do. I'll be quite upset if it turns out to have any truth in it, though. [editline]edit[/editline] also yeah its his wife, too. although i have a hard time believing the wife of a person like Senator Sanders is lacking in integrity, too
wow, fuck them if this is true I really wanted to believe in his integrity and all
well, SHE is under investigation, and to be fair the college was in dire financial straights. Mrs. Sanders decided they needed to grow to survive, that ended up not working out. Lawyering up is always a good precaution when dealing with federal investigations anyways
It makes me that Trump himself has something do this?
Despite what his supporters say, Trump is not the God of Conservatism. This guy acted on his own, he has a history of using his expertise to go after liberals and support conservative causes. Whether he is correct or not is up to impartial investigators and the justice system to decide.
If the allegations are true, then that will mean that Hillary, Trump, and Bernie were all under investigation at some point. Holy shit.
wow, fuck them if this is true I really wanted to believe in his integrity and all
This statement right here is the difference between the left and the right.
This statement right here is the difference between the left and the right.
well, its a bit daft to work in absolutes about anyone. Its not single incidents or behaviors that make someone worth admiring, respecting, or following: its the greater sum of who they are, including the negatives. Someone like Trump? yeah, good luck picking out positives. Sanders? Even if his wife did this, there was justification beyond selfishness - which doesn't make it right - but would make it hard for me to instantly decide fuck them and the horse they rode in on
It's his wife who's under investigation, not him lol, technically incorrect title. Also, as others have pointed out, the one who called for this investigation is known to be conservative-motivated.
hiring an attorney doesn't suggest guilt at all.
This. Jane seems lovely. I'll be very disappointed if this turns out to be true.
i really hope this isn't true

Whether he is correct or not is up to impartial investigators and the justice system to decide.
Yea, But don't say it to his religiously supporters (that including Tudd Flanders) where they treated him as unofficially so-call God-Emperor or deity of American Nationalism/National Conservatism.
I dont understand why everyone is so worried about this, if you are planning to face a lawsuit you hire lawers, im not for or against sanders but this is really not the issue about this whole ordeal.
They committed the worst crime of all: Displeasing the banks.
Whether it's true or not it will be something for the conservatives to pull in 2018 and that'll be enough, that is if he runs of course. Just the possibility of Hillary being found guilty on the e-mail scandal was enough to tip the election in Trump's favour.
She exaggerated the wealth of the college, she got a loan for to expand it. She could've done it for good reasons.
She exaggerated the wealth of the college, she got a loan for to expand it. She could've done it for good reasons.
Road to hell is paved with good intentions. Its still a crime.

You'd be a complete idiot not to.
