Connecticut state lawmakers have become the first in the country to pass legislation increasing the state's minimum wage to $10.10 an hour by 2017, the same rate President Barack Obama wants for the federal minimum wage.
Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy applauded the move, saying he'll sign it Thursday in New Britain, where Obama appeared to press for a $10.10 national wage.
"I am proud that Connecticut is once again a leader on an issue of national importance. Increasing the minimum wage is not just good for workers, it's also good for business," said Malloy in a statement Wednesday.
Just going to raise the wages of people who make more
Just going to raise the wages of people who make more
That would be a good thing if that alone was the only side effect of this since almost no one makes their fair share of what the company makes. The problem is that greedy businesses of the national chain variety will raise prices accordingly, and make sure that cost of living increases the same as minimum wage, if not more as punishment for getting uppity.
still this is a good thing and I'm glad. I hope it works out how it's planned, but I'm not optimistic.
but muh cheap food
Where would the minimum wage be today if it had kept up with inflation rates? Something like $15 or so?
Holy fuck this is such bullshit I mean whenever I get around to visiting Connecticut for whatever reason I'm going to have to pay an extra seven to fifteen cents on my dollar-menu burger, holy fuck I am this mad!

If you take Connecticut's human development index rating and compare it to other nations in the world, Connecticut is the third best place to live in the world, only after Germany and Norway.
[sp]But don't come here. We don't want you peasants. Just kidding.[/sp]

Well at least you have interesting things. Here we just have Roswell, Albuquerque (where Breaking Bad was filmed), White Sands (where Michael Bay comes to blow shit up every now and then, oh and the first atomic bomb was tested there), Carlsbad Caverns, Black Water Draw (where Clovis Man was discovered, one of the earliest fossils of Paleo Indians), and "New Mexican Blizzards".

Meanwhile, Connecticut still has a higher human development index rating than Canada. Seriously, unless you're from Germany or Norway, you will not win because of this point alone.
EDIT: The US as a whole does, too.

Glad to see this actually happening.
Here's hoping Minnesota follows!
This is a step up for everyone. First Connecticut, then the rest of America, then Africa. Baby steps.
The best part about living in Litchfield county is knowing a lot of rednecks and being able to see my Facebook feed blow up with their anger.
