The award was just presented during the non-televised portion of the Grammys and the winner was announced.
Slipknot were also nominated in the Best Rock Album category for .5: The Gray Chapter but lost out to Muse on that one.
Earlier this year, we interviewed The Recording Academy's Senior Vice President, Awards, Bill Freimuth, who said the Grammys made a bigger effort to get the nominees in the metal category right this year.

What [the rock community] requested specifically was a nominations review committee, which is something that is part of our process since 1989, so it's not new to the Academy, but new to the rock field this year. What that means is that the first ballot goes out to the general voting membership and they vote. Now, until this year, their top 5 vote-getters in all these categories have become the nominees. This year, with the institution of this new committee, our auditors don't give us the top five, they give us the top fifteen in the four categories of the rock field. This committee comes in and actually sits down and listens together to all of the top 15 in these categories and then they vote by secret ballot and narrow it down to the top five.
That's cool, definitely a littler lesser known (still... I think? correct me if I am wrong). I didn't care much for it when I gave it a listen, but I've been a big fan of their first album for years.

But for real, the Grammys doesn't recognize music outside of commercial relevance so who gives a fuck in the end. The best music is unknown to The Grammys.
Wait Slipknot lost to Muse? I never really considered Muse to be rock, atleast not on the same level as Slipknot.

it's reasonably well known. it's definitely one of the better well known metal tracks to come out recently

Even though I'm not a big fan of most Muse post-Black Holes and Revelations, I think they accomplish more as a 3-piece than Slipknot does. They've definitely explored other routes within their musical style (successfully), and they were pretty fuckin' rock back in the day btw.
Fuck yes. Meliora was my favorite album of last year.
hell yeah dude, Ghost absolutely killed it last year with Meliora and I don't even like metal
Sounds and looks a bit King Diamond-y, I like it. They definitely deserve the award.
Cirice is pretty fucking good
Bigger fan of Spirit and Pinnacle to the Pit but I'm very happy for them regardless, they've grown so much over the past few years.
Meghan Trainor won the award for Best New Artist.
Yikes.
Well-deserved.
I'm pretty sure I've never heard of these guys before this but the more I read and hear the more I like. The winning song is pretty cool.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Never been a fan of Ghost, but having experienced their Live in Rock in Rio really changed that. It's a surprisingly fun performance. Absolutely recommend it.
I'm glad they're getting recognition.

I've only seen Ghost live like, three times. They kick ass.
Well deserved.
I love the solo in the song.
They deserved it.
This is great

Glad to see them win something, they really do put on a good show and their music is awesome.
I didn't get into them until last year, i heard their song on the local radio and looked in to them and loved it all. Their music videos they got are fucking amazing.
Surprised no one posted the song yet.

First time I've ever listened to them. It's a nice song, pretty chill. I wouldn't call it metal by any means (not even doom metal - see bands like Candlemass or Solitude Aeturnus for that), but it's still a pretty good song. I love the Blue Oyster Cult vibes it gives.
It's metal, definitely not doom, but it's metal in the same way that King Diamond and Black Sabbath are metal.
Yeah it's deffo metal, I think the more extreme end of the metal spectrum is what people are used to, but this definitely fits in the metal wheelhouse
I like these guys because they're a real display of how important aesthetic can be, even in music. If a band were playing this exact music but they were just a bunch of guys in t shirts and jeans it probably wouldn't have reached this platform
This is great

I'm still surprised how much vocal range gets whilst wearing a (presumably latex but could be Silicone) mask.
Black Sabbath is a weird comparison to make, I've listened to Ghost's discoraphy in the last 24 hours and on one hand they're generally a lot more melodic and cleaner-toned and less heavy than Sabbath but at the same time it's effortless to imagine Ozzy singing instead. I can't place why they're easy to compare to Sabbath because I'd call Sabbath pretty essential doom and these guys really aren't.

his vocal range isn't terribly impressive though

dio era sabbath is probably a better comparison. personally I'd call it something between king diamond and blue oyster cult with a little hint of hawkwind though
gave it a listen, doesnt seem like anything special.
also good outfits for the grammys lol
They're always wearing outfits, though they change every album as a new Papa Emeritus is unveiled.

Don't they have a whole anonymity thing going on?
ghost is great, I've heard their stuff for a few years and it's very nice.
Congrats dudes

Yes. As far as all Nameless Ghouls are concerned, no one really knows who they are except family members. As for Papa, there are theories as to what his identity may be, but it's best to ignore them. Keeps the image intact.
