• My sister went to New Hampshire to help a dog

So here's the wonderful news I've just recieved, however the details are a little fuzzy, I want to know what you guys think. MY sister recently found a brown doberman, (I don't have a picture at the moment), and took it upon herself to bring the dog to New Hampshire by driving, all the way from here in New York City. Let me explain my sister. She LOVES animals. She's constantly doing research on behaviors and foods, she owns 4 dogs, a rabbit, I think a few guinea pigs, and a cat, and I think she still has a Cockatoo (which is adorable). Two of the dogs she owned she rescued pretty much by herself and her boyfriend (who's pretty much like a brother to me). Her cockerspaniel was one she found a few months ago, running on the sidewalk being chased by a few people who weren't the owners. Her chihuahua is one that couldn't be taken care of any longer by it's previous owner, so my sister took it in. Her cat was previously the cat that belonged to a pet store she used to work at, and this is all in her own tiny humble house. It's no surprise to me or my parents that she did this, although it did kinda catch me off guard. The reason she's at New Hampshire is, and I'm not entirely sure what the situation is but to I THINK drop off the dog or help it somehow. If you look up the distance from NYC to New Hampshire, I guess you could understand why my parents didn't exactly approve of the voyage. My parents think she's stupid for going all that way and not getting paid for it, wasting mileage on the car, etc. I, on the other hand, love my sister for it. I mean, to rescue a dog is one thing, but to make a sacrifice and drive that far for a dog... that's what some call ludicrous. My parents, they think I'm stupid as well for agreeing with my sister. They believe that it's simply not worth doing shit if you're not getting paid and "wasting" mileage. Even though you're doing it for a good cause. My parents don't seem to understand what it's like to do a good deed and not get paid. So I ask you, Facepunch, what is your opinion?
Where in New Hampshire? I live in southern NH and it probably takes about 4 hours to get to NYC. I guess it's not terrible, I know a woman who gets her dogs exclusively from Russia.

Going that distance with no pay? I think she is barking up the wrong tree. :colbert:

I'm in Toronto, Canada and even I would go to New Hampshire to save the dog.
I wouldn't drive for 4 hours to save a dog but I kinda see why your sister did it...
I wouldn't use the word "save". I don't know the whole story.
Your parents are dicks. There is no monetary benefits of charity. There is actually, no material benefits to charity. The only benefit from charity is the person who is receiving it. You don't go out to help someone, and expect money, or some sort of gift for it. Society really closed its doors on this...

I thanked her for not being some greedy dickhead who said to themselves "HEY WAIT I CAN PROFIT LOL", it made my day that much better to hear that my sister wasn't like my parents. Don't get me wrong, my parents are good parents... most of the time, but wow they simply aren't good people people (not a typo). Apparently every act of doing something nice simply requires some form of monetary reward. [editline]1st March 2011[/editline] I honestly can never see myself doing something as heartless or soulless as going up to somebody, whom of which I found their lost dog, and proceeding to say to their face with all seriousness, "SO HOW WILL YOU BE PAYING ME"
she stole the dog? and i dont really see the point in helping animals. they are just walking meat after all, waiting to get eaten. she might have done something better and help the homeless.

[QUOTE=KingKombat;28373088]wow the pure amount of dumb in this post is quite astonishing[/QUOTE] if your sister values animal life over human life she's dumb. do you have any idea how much money she wasted traveling that far? probably loads of money that could be spent on buying food for the homeless people instead

"your sister adopted a pet instead of giving her money to a hobo? WOW WHAT A DUMBASS"
She didn't actually adopt it, she's bringing it or brought it back to someone in New Hampshire [editline]1st March 2011[/editline] After she found it like a few days ago
she could've given that car to a hobo how SELFISH OF HER
[QUOTE=teh pirate;28373257]she could've given that car to a hobo how SELFISH OF HER[/QUOTE] Yeah she also could've fed her dogs to hobos, or even put them in dogfights for money! Selfish bitch!

Dogs are kinda like homeless people, they poop all over the place and on your car.

The reason the animals are being abused is because of human stupidity, it's not their fault like overpopulation. I'm not saying it's not right to help starving children as well, I'm just saying that we owe it to at least not abuse animals due to the fact that many have had to evolve around our lifestyles. I'm proud of your sister and you for agreeing with her. Many people also call me stupid for sacrificing my paying job for a 2 month volunteer internship to save sea turtles from coyotes and humans, but as her I find my humanity is more important than money.
It's only 4 hours from Southern New Hampshire to NYC. I've got family in NY and NJ, 6 to 8 hour drives are pretty normal. [editline]1st March 2011[/editline] Holy Hell I've driven to Ptown and back to pick up my mother, that's a 6 hour drive
