• Olympics rowers & sailors to compete in waters filled with raw sewage
RIO DE JANIERO -- Five weeks before the start of the Olympics in Rio, police say a mutilated body washed up on Copacabana Beach, where the beach volleyball competition will be held. The horrific discovery comes as Olympics organizers deal with a raft of problems including severe pollution in the venues for sailing, rowing, and other water sports. Biologist Mario Moscatelli is the man behind the camera who has been documenting Rio's vast water pollution problem for the past 20 years. He hoped the Olympics would force Rio to clean it up. "We had seven years and our authorities didn't do almost anything, because this is a toilet," he said, pointing at the water. Raw sewage still flows from Rio's poor neighborhoods right into the water. In the marina where Olympic sailors will launch their boats, a giant plume of sewage streams into the water. Rio's waters were found to contain viruses up to 1.7 million more times hazardous than a beach in the U.S. The problem is not just sewage. It's also trash, tons of it, floating in the bay. And some athletes say they're worried about running into it.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/rio-olympics-2016-severe-water-pollution-clouds-games/ http://www.wired.com/2016/07/us-rowing-teams-antimicrobial-suit-wont-save-rios-water/
See? It's already a shitstorm.
This is gonna be the most entertaining Olympics yet.
Jesus fucking Christ just fucking cancel the Olympics for everyone's sake. This shit angers me to no end. [sp]yob tvoyu mat' Brazil[/sp]
Wow, it's a literal shitshow :v:
Jesus fucking Christ just fucking cancel the Olympics for everyone's sake. This shit angers me to no end. [sp]yob tvoyu mat' Brazil[/sp]
but the moneyyyy
Fuck the money bro. Think about the athletes m8.
Fuck the money bro. Think about the athletes m8.
Considering how most athletes have one chance to compete before they drop off their absolute peak of fitness due to age, there'd probably be enough of them crazy enough to swim in likely fatally toxic waters.
Considering how most athletes have one chance to compete before they drop off their absolute peak of fitness due to age, there'd probably be enough of them crazy enough to swim in likely fatally toxic waters.
that amount of disregard for their own safety should be met with intervention
that amount of disregard for their own safety should be met with intervention
That's pretty easy to say when you haven't spent your entire life training for a single, potentially once in a lifetime event.
Which is worse: Rio's waters or the Ganges in India?
They're up Shit Creek with a paddle.
That's pretty easy to say when you haven't spent your entire life training for a single, potentially once in a lifetime event.
they haven't trained their entire life to swim in poop, they deserve better, and any athlete who goes through with this is an idiot and a sell out
that amount of disregard for their own safety should be met with intervention
Oh indeed, i'm not a fan of the idea of Olympic athletes essentially committing suicide. Many spend their lives training for one chance at a truly prestigious sporting accomplishment, and it'd be no doubt one hell of an emotional blow to be told they can't compete, but they'd still have many many years of life ahead of them that swimming in a body of water more suitable for a Fallout game than an Olympic event would take from them.
opening ceremony is going to be raw sewage sprayed on the crowds and athletes as the government of brazil and the people on the IOC jack off with hundred dollar bills shredded into a lubepaste
And ppl go there for vacation christ
Absolutely disgraceful. The Olympics should be canceled/moved and Brazil should be fined for wasting everybody's time.
Maybe the sludge will add an unnecessary element of challenge so it'll take forever to paddle through merda riacho.
I dread the world losing athletes in Rio, who work their bodies and minds so hard to achieve their dreams in the Olympics.
and people blame the US for the Atlantic trash gyre
Considering how most athletes have one chance to compete before they drop off their absolute peak of fitness due to age, there'd probably be enough of them crazy enough to swim in likely fatally toxic waters.
well they certainly are only going to get one chance if they fucking die from swimming in toxic waters
Olympics X fear factor
I think I might actually watch the Olympics for once in my life time. Can't wait to see floating shit pickles and mutilated bodies on camera!
Jesus Christ. 5 weeks before it even starts and there's 2 articles a week being posted about horrid conditions there. Imagine the media shitstorm when the world's best athletes are sick from this (no pun intended) shit
shit pickles
You mean this little aberration? I'd definitely be impressed seeing AVGN in the olypmics.
they haven't trained their entire life to swim in poop, they deserve better, and any athlete who goes through with this is an idiot and a sell out
Do they deserve better? Of course they do, the conditions in Rio are atrocious. But calling someone a sell out for not squandering their entire life's worth of training is stupid. For many athletes, this is the one and only chance they will get. I can understand why some would take the risk regardless.

For once I'm going to watch these Olympics
Absolutely disgraceful. The Olympics should be canceled/moved and Brazil should be fined for wasting everybody's time.
they should have cancelled this when they chose it, the IOC has to do a huge inspection before choosing the city/country and making sure its fit for the games, and brazil has loads of time and the IOC has loads of time to pick a better city. now its too late, and for the athletes? now or never. Either way they fucked up as much as Brazil did here.
