'Muslim ban' is no more deserving of protest than 16 countries' ban on Israeli citizens' - Tory MP
Former cabinet minister suggests 'protestors' should be turning their focus to 16 Muslim states too.
A travel ban on Israeli citizens by Muslim countries should be protested as well as Donald Trump’s decision to bar people from seven predominantly Islamic countries, a senior Conservative MP has said.
Former Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers made the suggestion at Prime Minister’s Questions.
She asked Theresa May whether she thought opponents of the new US President’s immigration policy were wrong to overlook similar measures in other countries.
“In the light of the fact that most of the countries covered by the Trump ban have a total exclusion on the admission of Israeli citizens, shouldn’t the protestors also be calling for that ban to be lifted,” she said.
Israeli citizens are currently banned from entering 16 states including Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen and Libya. Mr Trump’s executive order temporarily barred travel to the US from all of those countries. The other countries which ban Israeli citizens are Algeria, Bangladesh, Brunei, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
It seems like the violent left protesting the muslim ban forgot or ignored the Jew ban made by 16 muslim countries. Hypocrites.

No more, and no less.
But I feel that I have relatively little ability to influence the politics of various Muslim countries of which I'm not a citizen, so this strikes me as a moot point.
I don't think that you'll get me to say that I don't think most Islamic countries are pretty shit, but there's no good reason for us to be shit too.

Wow I didn't even read your little editorialization. Classy man.

Also aren't you supposed to link to the article?

"You're not allowed to protest bad things unless you protest literally all bad things at once."
bans based off of religion in any form are wrong, but I don't think its unreasonable to want to care about your own backyard before other countries.
A worse thing happening elsewhere doesn't mean the thing happening in the US is somehow less bad.
Jew here. Do you want to know why I'm not protesting those right now? Because I don't fucking live in any of those countries and can't do anything about their bans you absolute fucking egg.
But they're not Israeli? I thought I'd seen the limits of whataboutism but this is a whole new level.
I didn't realize that shithole theocracies in the middle east were the standard that the US is being held up to
well I guess as long as Trump isn't worse than Assad then there isn't any reason to be bothered!
Wow Lord M
really gotta stretch that narrative
Also you could argue that the Israeli ban makes a bit more sense because Israel has been in wars with most of those countries in the last 100 years so they at least have some reason to hate Israel while Trump's ban is just "they're foreign so fuck them".

Call it as I see them.
Call it as I see them.
you need fucking glasses then, mate
Call it as I see them.
No, you're not.
Call it as I see them.
get your eyes checked hun
Call it as I see them.
I sure hope you never criticised Obama/Merkel/Clinton without carefully checking a list of other leaders to call out at the same time. Otherwise you're a fucking hypocrite.
I am not a citizen of those countries and thus why would they care if I protested their Israeli ban?
If I think my country is beginning to slip to the levels of some of these countries, then I absolutely should be protesting. Not to mention, what you have dubbed a "Jew Ban" is clearly targeted at a single nation that these countries believe should not exist. What you think of that is another thing, but this is clearly a political dispute, not the blending of religion and politics we have in the US now.
This is easily one of the dumbest articles I have ever read, I mean honestly, you can't be serious.
Why would anyone think to protest some bullshit that people are doing in another country? Even then, the context is completely different. People in our communities and our country having their rights suspended vs the relations of other countries?

there were worldwide protests against Trump so...
If the US institutes a policy of cutting off thieves' hands then you aren't allowed to protest unless you've previously protested the Saudi justice system.
As an american, I will begin to give a shit about this issue when Israel is officially becomes our 51st state.
Until then I can only hope we ship them enough sharpies and construction paper for them to picket for themselves.
it's not out of the question for citizens of one country to protest the actions of another. but calling people hypocrites because they aren't protesting this when they're protesting that is fucking dumb.

In that case, all the western countries that protested the Trump ban should not protested it? It is in your words man.
Call it as I see them.
No you call them as the narrative you, and your ilk, wish to design mandates.
People like you with political agendas as the forefront of your public persona bother me. You don't look at this event, and try and decide what it is, what it means, no, fuck that, you know, and you don't need anyone, or any further thought, to decipher the complicated intricacies that are events in our real, fucking lives.
What is "Hypocritical" about me, a Canadian, not being able to change those laws in THOSE nations, as well as being upset about the US ban, and not being able to do anything about that, either?
Care to explain, or will you just say some pithy, short attempt at being witty?
As an Israeli, the comparison is shallow. The Arab world has a lot of anti semitism dating back centuries and the Israel ban is a result of this anti semitism. The US doesn't have a culture that is Islamphobic and it's also a leading country comparing to the shit countries that ban israelis. It's a different standard.
Alrighty, first off, we in the west (especially the usa) are kinda supposed to be the shining beacon of democracy and tolerance.
Secondly, bullshit "whataboutism" doesn't excuse this ban, ESPECIALLY seeing as you are comparing a western developed democracy to third world religious theocracies. I mean, come on. Either you didn't think this through, which can happen to anyone, no harm done, or you're being purposefully obtuse, which is just... Lame, ya know?
The only way to be hypocritical here if you APPROVE of one ban while protesting another ban. And silence is not confirmation.
Don't be stupid here, !LORD M!, I know you have some wit.

last i checked we weren't them, and our constitution explicidly says we cannot discriminate based on your religion
In that case, all the western countries that protested the Trump ban should not protested it? It is in your words man.
Protesting the illegal actions of a fascist dictator-wannabe of a country that you're allied with vs under developed third world countries that people have little stake in?
It doesn't make people hypocrites, it shows where their priorities are and what they have an investment in.

Nah it's actually a Jew ban. Jews are not allowed in most of the gulf states and for the countries they can enter, they aren't allowed to bring religious items.
