Verizon sends Netflix cease and desist over streaming quality warnings

Verizon has sent Netflix a cease and desist order demanding that it stop presenting its subscribers with messages that blame Verizon's network for poor streaming performance. Netflix's messages are actively meant to knock Verizon — among other service providers — that it alleges have been hurting streaming quality, either actively or through failing to properly maintain their networks.
Verizon has vehemently disagreed that it's at fault for dips in performance, and it reiterates that in the order. "There is no basis for Netflix to assert that issues with respect to playback of any particular video session are attributable solely to the Verizon network," reads Verizon's letter.
After Netflix's messages caught wide attention yesterday, Verizon immediately fired back, calling them "inaccurate," "misleading," and a "PR stunt," writing that any issue in streaming quality was likely on Netflix's end.

Honestly, it's not an overreaction, this can cost Verizon some customers.
(and it fucking should)
Inaccurate? Misleading? Well then, you should have no problem proving that you don't throttle connections or provide any kind of priority service to people who pay more, right?
Are they really doing anything wrong? It isn't slander by any means, it can be objectively proven that verizon throttles speeds like that. Not to mention the actual warnings themselves are not even close to being pushy, they're rather neutral actually.

I sure fucking hope it does
I'm still waiting for google fiber to get here
:D The thing I find the most funny is their counterargument. It's not that the messages is wrong in itself, but because in some cases it may be wrong.

How so?
How so?
people realize how scummy they are being once they open their eyes to what they are doing?

From what I've heard that's like trading up from eating shit, to eating shit with a modicum of salt and pepper.
"There is no basis for Netflix to assert that issues with respect to playback of any particular video session are attributable solely to the Verizon network," reads Verizon's letter.
Yeah and do you think it's fair to put the blame entirely on Netflix then? Fuck off.

Oh, the way I read that it sounded like Verizon was going to take it out on their customers. But yeah, this.
I side with netflix here, i use US netflix from sweden and i never have any problems with buffering or having HD quality streaming.
Sure i have 100/100 mbit but it's still over the atlantic
Is there any quantifiable way to demonstrate that Netflix's slowdowns are solely the fault of Verizon?
If not, Netflix needs to knock it off because regardless of how you feel about Verizon, it's not right for them to be blaming Verizon for an issue that could be due to Comcast or even their own systems, especially after they threw their own pretensions to supporting net neutrality out the window when they signed a deal with Comcast. There are so many different factors that could cause slowdowns and passive-aggressive error messages blaming Verizon are little more than slander.
It's possible to test network connectivity to isolate the weakest link, may it be comcast, verizon etc.

Netflix should just add the word 'may' into it's notice, then they can both argue about the same thing.

Yeah it buffers better for me than my phone does on your typical wifi connection.

That's true. On top of that, it's childish for two companies to sit there and go "It's not my fault" "Well, it's not my fault either!" It's like, just shut up and work together, you little shits.
