I've already told someone I'm going to see this movie with them when they come home from the holidays. I actually had a feeling it could have been decent.
At least I know what I'm getting into.
This and Warcraft were the last chance video game movies had. Maybe these two mediums really are incompatible. Say what you want about Assassins creed and how Ubisoft has been handling the series, but there was potential here to at least have an interesting historical action flick with the present sections giving the story some context....So what the hell went wrong ? There were quite a lot of talented people attached to this project (Other than maybe the screenwriter, which is where the downfall might have been). Since from what I read in the reviews, most of the movie is set in Abstergo and the whole thing takes itself way too damn seriously.
I actually just came back from it and ranged from good to alright
There are 4 video game movies that came out this year: Ratchet & Clank, The Angry Birds Movie, Warcraft and Assassin's Creed.
And yet, Angry Birds got the highest scores on Rotten tomatoes for 43%. :v:

There was a Ratchet and Clank film? When?

In late April, few weeks before The Angry Birds Movie.
and yes R&C was completely forgettable. It's as generic as a generic kids movie could be
I didn't even realise it existed :v: forgettable indeed
The guy with the grey shirt sounds super familiar. Are these guys the same dudes who used to review movies but were in cartoon form? I remember there being like 3 - 4 dudes and a robot.
Ratchet & Clank had the makings of a straight-to-DVD film, which was unsurprising since the company behind it only made Barbie films and a box office flop called, "Mars Needs Moms"
didn't they do reboot as well?
Basically the Modern day bits.......suck the Animus bits.......awesome.
So this where Korey Coleman went after Spill.com.
The animus part. :v:
I feel a little bad that we make these guys suffer in a 1.5-2 hour movie regularly so we can enjoy them reviewing it for 20-30 minutes.
Double toasted and RLM are champs

They're not incompatible, just the rights and creative control always seems to fall into the hands of incompetent people. It's such a shame.

The movie is suppose to be based on the remake (or vice versa, not actually sure). There are even scenes from the movie in the game.

Yeah, wasn't following them then, but pretty sure some of them did a show like that.

I think one thing is getting more and more obvious and people don't talk about it; there are simply more original ideas and more talent in video game industry than it is in movie industry. Fallout, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Deus Ex, Halo, Metro... those could all have been great original movie franchises, but they aren't. That's the thing, they aren't. Those worlds, stories and characters were created by people and companies in the game development industry.
Movie industry is too slow to accept new talent. A simple example is that Alien Isolation game. You can see the people who made it knew what Alien was all about. Then look at Prometheus, made by Ridley Scott, the original author. That movie is a piece of shit, it's an insult how stupid it is. The same comparison can be made with Star Wars prequels and all the video games that were better.

i still have some hope in JJ abram's Portal movie.

I meant Rainmaker was behind the series Reboot, not an actual reboot

There are plenty of creative movies, you just don't know about them.
However, even without considering that games have gameplay to add value besides story, games and movies are extremely different as story-telling mediums go.
A movie loosely based on a video game or set in the same world as a video game is possible, but there are very few games whose stories would really be suited to a movie environment.
