I hate how the U.S. still uses this shitty system, why can't we go to metric like most modern countries. Anyone else agree? Also, I realize how much it would cost to switch directly to metric, but we're still not doing much to switch. (like we were told was happening a few years ago....) Also, if you don't know what standard is, heres a (slightly incomplete)table. Length 12 inches = 1 foot 144 sq. inches = 1 square foot 3 feet = 1 yard 9 sq. feet = 1 square yard 4840 sq. yards = 1 acre 640 acres = 1 square mile 5280 feet = 1 mile 1760 yards = 1 mile Mass 16 ounces = 1 pound Volume (Dry) 2 pints = 1 quart 8 quarts = 1 peck 4 pecks = 1 bushel Volume (Liquid) 8 ounces = 1 cup 16 ounces = 1 pint 2 pints = 1 quart 4 quarts = 1 gallon
Hooray for the metric system.
Because America is a backwards Orwellian hellhole full of right-wing bigoted Fundies who think the Metric system is the work of Communism and Satan. Seriously.
Just look at the US military. They use metric. No reason for the rest of the country not to.
Some people just won't get over it. Metric should now be taught as a primary measurement instead of 'oh, this is how they do it in Europe'
The metric system is so much more simple and easy. Just go with it America then you'll see.

Seriously.
Or you know instead of being a prick,
The USA has been in the process of converting ever since the Metric Conversion Act of 1975. But since the Metric Board was closed down in 1982, there has been no driving force behind the change, so consequently the change has been slow. Some non-domestic products have been metricated, particularly where exportation is involved.
Always wondered what a bushel was. Only time I ever saw it was in Harvest Moon
The US is the only reason Canada has to use their shitty system of measurement for things like tools, carpentry and other assorted things. I was raised with the metric system, and knowing how large an eighth of an inch is fucking impossible when you first start.
Yea thanks to America, in university (Canada) we have to learn both systems, which I guess is fine... But I find after using both of them constantly I can't understand why anyone supports it(American system), besides the costs of switching.
It's extremely difficult to undo everything standard and replace it with metric. I'll be surprised if it ever happens. edit: we had to learn metric too

I love customary fuck them redcoats.
While we're at measurements, how does Fahrenheit work? At 0 Celsius water freezes, but what happens at 0 Fahrenheit?
Because America is a backwards Orwellian hellhole full of right-wing bigoted Fundies who think the Metric system is the work of Communism and Satan. Seriously.
I would just like to say that I get that you're trying to be funny and that you're not really serious.
While we're at measurements, how does Fahrenheit work? At 0 Celsius water freezes, but what happens at 0 Fahrenheit?
Nothing, but it's really fucking cold for someone who lives in Texas.
Talk-shitter.
Because people fail to recognize sarcasm at work. :colbert:
We cant go to metric because we'd have to overhaul our entire fucking system. It's way too much trouble to even be worth it just so we can please some euro asshole like OP.
While we're at measurements, how does Fahrenheit work? At 0 Celsius water freezes, but what happens at 0 Fahrenheit?
With Fahrenheit, water freezes at like 33.5 degrees or some shit.
We use metric in track and field, but all the sports use traditional still
With Fahrenheit, water freezes at like 33.5 degrees or some shit.
Then what did he base his zero around?
We cant go to metric because we'd have to overhaul our entire fucking system. It's way too much trouble to even be worth it just so we can please some euro asshole like OP.
I'm American... EDIT: Read my profile before you jump to conclusions.
Because people fail to recognize sarcasm at work. :colbert:
When you're using sarcasm and not intentionally insulting it, make it more obvious.
On topic: We tried to change to metric, but for being an easier system some downies were having problems adapting (probably old christian cunts). Not only should the whole word use a standardized measurement system (including temperature), there should also be standard currency acceptable world wide (gold, precious stones; since "legal tender" loses value from inflation), and a standard language(something with a high efficiency, such as Spanish or English). A man can dream.
Because people fail to recognize sarcasm at work. :colbert:
Wat.
Most scientists in the US, as well as the US military have been using the metric system for a while now. I personally prefer the metric system because I like logical things, and the Imperial system isn't logical in the slightest.
With Fahrenheit, water freezes at like 33.5 degrees or some shit.
32 degrees, and boils at 212... makes a whole lot of sense huh?
