We have 180 confirmed cases including 24 admitted to intensive care, four deaths have been confirmed and a fifth situation is still under investigation in terms of diagnosis but it will certainly join these four cases," said Francisco George in a meeting at the Directorate General of Health. The Health Minister Paulo Macedo has said he has launched a contingency plan to deal with the outbreak while the Director of Health has admitted that the outbreak is a problem that is not normal given the its magnitude.
30 cases on Friday, 60 cases on Saturday, 180 cases today, all from the same municipality, most of them are people over 40/50 years old and the deceased are all confirmed over the same age area(old people here have rather weak health and life conditions). People are more paranoid about this than the Ebola outbreak because they think they can get infected if they drink water, oh boy.
Fuck, pretty sure something like this happened in Edinburgh a few years ago, not on this scale though, shit this is fucked up, hope they find the source and nip it in the bud.

Yep, I remember everyone shitting themselves about it at my school when it was happening :v:

Yeah saw this pop up on the news yesterday, it affects the lungs, there's no person-to-person contagion, only way this can get to you is if you inhale water vapor infected with it, drinking infected water is safe.
I didn't know a thing about this. Oh well.
The Soviets have developed genetically modified Legionella bacteria that have been shown to induce auto-immunity to myelin (an important component of nerve and brain) in mice; when infected with this bacterium the mice die a horrific death.

Which municipality?
Cos we used to have a house up in Aljezur. Sold it away just this summer while we were there. Very nice place to just chill, but no more Portugal for me sadly.

Vila Franca de Xira
My business teacher mentioned this a few days ago. Her parents were on holiday in Portugal and had to leave their hotel because the water was infected with Legionnaires'. A girl got sick and had to be airlifted back to the UK, the poor thing died en route.
The thing is, this happened weeks before they were evacuated. That hotel was still operating with the knowledge that their water was infected, which is a frightening thought.
Good, I'm safe... Unless an earthquake happens in the sea...

So if my vape juice is infected I can get fucked?
So can we totally overreact to this virus too and shut down all air travel out of Portugal? :downs:
Imma gonna stay here and whoop that shit's ass.

Don't drink the water! They put something in it, to make you forget.

Vape juice is vegetable glycerin, not water vapor.
i hope legionella gets legionellosis and dies slowly

I live in one of the three cities affected by this, rather odd. Doctors on the TV have said that water temperature is irrelevant, as steam itself can't infect you, but rather aerosols formed from high pressure.
People are still paranoid though. A lot resorted to showering using bottled water.

Okay, pretty far away from our previously owned house.

Now don't go robbing the place.
Monday update: 233 infected, 5 dead, it has spread to 3 other municipalities.
shit is spreading faster due to the weather
Warning: potentially dumb question incoming
If it spreads via infected water vapour, does that mean that it's essentially airborne in humid weather?
So if my vape juice is infected I can get fucked?
Only if you add infected water to smooth it out, otherwise...
Vape juice is vegetable glycerin, not water vapor.
This. Unless you've somehow infected your juice, you'll be fine. I used to add water to certain brands/flavors of juice because they were syrup and wouldn't flow right. Not much though, just enough to get them to the viscosity that I was used to in the other juices.
So my father was about to offer me clients in Vila Franca de Xira.. He thought it was better to do them at the end of month because of this situation :v:
Shit I hope it doesnt spread too easy
oh shit, doctors just confirmed 2 of them got infected in Luanda, Angola and Lima, Peru, not here
number of infected raised to 264, it slowed down the rate but it's still getting to people
