Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey is expected to present options for such a strike at a White House meeting on Saturday, CBS News reported on Friday. US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel suggested Friday naval forces are moving in position closer to Syria in case Obama chooses action. "The Defense Department has a responsibility to provide the president with options for contingencies, and that requires positioning our forces, positioning our assets, to be able to carry out different options — whatever options the president might choose," Hagel said, adding a decision must be made quickly given “there may be another (chemical) attack.”
Options on the table.
Lets go to war! Again! Yaaaay!
Mmmm not that worried it is just precautionary positioning but still...
Prep the Amphibious invasion vehicles while you're at it too, America.
We got involved in this conflict way to late, let the death tolls rise way to high, and let extremists take over the rebel movement. At this point getting involved is useless anyway.

The way they call it a 'cruise missile attack' makes me think they'll fire one of them and call it a day

Yeah great okay everyone sat by too long and now there isn't one clear side to throw our unlimited support behind and create democracy and happiness and Jesus, on the other hand thousands of people continue to die at the hands of both sides. At the very least use some of those peacekeepers we hear so much about and try to stop the fighting and the massacres while we attempt to bring a peaceful resolution to the conflict, rather than standing around and going "Oh wow that's too bad but we shouldn't help because of ~~~extremists~~~"
We need to leave it alone and isolate them, we can't do this.

Is it really the USA's job to police every fucked up backwater country in the world? We could have helped them at the start but now we don't even know that someone worse wouldn't take over afterwords. Giving weapons to people who hate us isn't a good idea either. We learned that in Afghanistan.
The way they call it a 'cruise missile attack' makes me think they'll fire one of them and call it a day
Yeah, like how we invaded and forcibly took over Bosnia/Herzegovina in '95, Afghanistan and Sudan in '98, Yemen in '09, and Libya in '11. Oh wait. Turns out it's pretty easy to launch cruise missiles at clear targets and call it mission accomplished without putting troops on the ground.
;41947169']We screwed ourselves by getting involved in way to many conflicts in the past.
Oh okay so the US has had bad experiences in the past in regards to drawn-out needless conflicts therefore it can never again get involved with any conflict ever, no matter how deadly it is to the innocent civilian community of that region
;41947169']Is it really the USA's job to police every fucked up backwater country in the world? We could have helped them at the start but now we don't even know that someone worse wouldn't take over afterwords.
Yeah you're right, it is unfair to expect America, the only country in the world, to help put an end to massacres and localized genocide. Oh wait! There is a whole international community that isn't solely comprised of America and whoever the chosen enemy of the day is! Well gee willickers, how about that?
;41947169']Giving weapons to people who hate us isn't a good idea either. Didn't Obama just say he doesn't want to get involved unless absolutely necessary?
Strikes like this are fine to me, but I'm not ok with the idea of boots on the ground. Our soldiers dying for a cause that isn't our business doesn't sit right with me. This isn't a fight we should even think about having any of our guys die in.

Peacekeepers don't do anything either. If someone is nerve gassing his own people do you think a couple UN guys saying no will do anything to deter him?
Yes it's much more acceptable that we let rebels and loyalists alike slaughter thousands of innocents
Not what I'm saying. I'd rather have no fly zones and missile strikes that put our guys in as little danger as possible. Isn't a cause that I think we should be throwing American lives away on.
Yes it's much more acceptable that we let rebels and loyalists alike slaughter thousands of innocents
Are we going in to stop thousands dying in African tribal infighting, Mexican drug wars, Egyptian protests, and everything else wrong is the world? The west isn't the worlds police force.
They can fire all the cruise missiles and drop as many bombs as they want on Assad for all I care. Just don't put any troops on the ground.
I wish there were some way other than "Stop killing innocent people or else we're gonna kill innocent people"
Fuck can we at least goto war somewhere fun instead of all the boring, no alcohol, Islamist countries Goto war in Fiji or something
Fuck can we at least goto war somewhere fun instead of all the boring, no alcohol, Islamist countries Goto war in Fiji or something
And take all their natural spring water
Didn't Obama just say he doesn't want to get involved unless absolutely necessary?
Didn't you listen to what he said in the video?
Better than having boots on the ground Not the best thing that could happen, but still better than others
Do we have any cruise missiles left after shooting them all at Libya? I can't see any way US involvement could possibly make things better. If we side with the regime, the regime will happily exterminate anyone who ever uttered a bad word about them. If we side with the rebels, the regime falls and the Islamists exterminate the other members of the rebel coalition and then establish another oppressive Islamic state. Anyone fighting for democracy and free elections in Syria is already dead, they just don't know it yet.
unfortunately it's just part of our cycle of going to war every 8 years it'd be better to keep away from it but nope, obama gotta get his rep up
Why is this news, once again this is a case of everyone in the world making plans to invade everyone else in the world. Its kinda the job of a defense department when its not actively invading said countries.
The U.S, putting their dick in crazy for centuries.
Why don't we take Syria, and push it somewhere else
Why is this news, once again this is a case of everyone in the world making plans to invade everyone else in the world.
