US father helpless to bring kidnapped sons home from Egypt
(CNN) -- Nearly 12 years ago, Michael Shannon sent his two young sons to New York for what he thought would be a weekend visit with their mother.
It would be the last time he saw either one of them.
Nermeen Khalifa, the boys' mother and Shannon's ex-wife, took the children to her home country of Egypt, where U.S. citizens have almost no rights in custody battles.
"They were out of the country before we even knew they were gone," Shannon said. "I went to the apartment to pick them up. It was like it was ransacked."
Shannon said he knew at that time what had probably happened, but confirmation came a couple weeks later when he got a call from his eldest son.
"I received a call from Adam right after 9/11 and he said: 'I'm not in America anymore. I'm not even in New York,' " Shannon recalled. "He thought New York was a separate country. He was only 4 years old at the time.
"He says, 'When are you and Pop-Pop coming to get me?' And I said, 'As soon as we can.' "
Fast-forward to 2013, and Shannon had still not seen Adam or younger son Jason, who was 10 months old when his mother took him away. Not even in a photograph.
What a fucking cunt.
It's scary to know that someone can just kidnap you and take you to another country, and the law can't do jack shit about it.
Things like this are what hurt the image of foreigners.
Wasn't there a similar case like this with a Japanese woman taking her kids to Japan and the father unable to go see them?

Anybody kidnap from the US to some other country should be rescured by some Spec OPs.

And it should be filmed, a compilation of these would be way more entertaining than most movies nowadays.

too many cases: at least 250 from Japan alone. However, we should be putting more diplomatic pressure here, if anywhere.

These cases are shitty because there's conflicting rights in play here. US courts say he has custody. Egyptian courts say she has custody. So now get an aribitrator who actually is impartial and tells who has custody and both sides can agree.
You send US spec ops to secure people like this and you get a huge international incident. Because she techncally has probably custody under the egyptian legal system.

Cases like these are fairly common in custody battles in multi national relationships. The big problem here is, that it's technically hard to qualify as kidnapping at first and is almost imposisible to do as such under international law.
How someone can be so evil as to deprive their children of one of their biological parents is beyond me. Other crimes, I can sometimes see the rationalization behind. But this is just senseless hate and hurt.

The mother took them....
This is technically a custody issue.

Doesn't make it any less horrific imho

Egypt won't even give the man the time of day -
"Shannon turned to an Egyptian court for help, hiring an Egyptian attorney to help him enforce his U.S. custody rights. The case was filed in 2002 but postponed until 2004. It was then postponed another two years, and nothing has happened since."

Taken 3: Episode 1?
(Taken 3 confirmed?)
I wonder if he could get into trouble for personally going to Egypt and "kidnapping" them back.

Doubt it. I'm pretty sure the kids would actually want to go him if they're having a shitty time in Egypt

You didn't read the article:
"Six years ago, Shannon said, he was allowed to talk to Adam on the phone on his 10th birthday. But it wasn't the boy he remembered.
"He was, 'I hope bulldozers knock your house down and they burn your house,' " Shannon said."

Oh I only read what was quoted in the OP. I think it's far too late for him to get his kids back at this point.

Christ.
I want the mother to face charges the moment she steps on US soil again. Hell revoke her US citizenship.
Scalp the bitch

It's been a decade. I doubt she's coming back.

Sad thing is there was already a warrant out for her arrest.
wtf seriously
if the kids were born here aren't they US citizens? I cant believe the mother can get away with doing this.
What a fucking bitch! Without any provocation or warning, she KIDNAPPED 2 children to egypt, 10 months old to be exact, from her father. and I dont even know if they even have any issues or divorce or anything.
Seriously, What the fuck was her motive to pull something like this? Call me crazy but Im definitely demanding all the answers, now.

For all we know, they have Egyptian citizenship through their mother.

That's a really stupid thing to say.
You're a foreigner to me and 6.5ish billion people.

I'm pretty sure the same happens the other way around, when someone takes their kids to the us against the will of the other parent.
Like I said, if egypt can't do it, spec ops can. We shouldn't be afraid to take care of our own citizens overseas.
