• Four thousand year old Human brain preserved by being boiled in its skull

via: New Scientist
SHAKEN, scorched and boiled in its own juices, this 4000-year-old human brain has been through a lot. It may look like nothing more than a bit of burnt log, but it is one of the oldest brains ever found. Its discovery, and the story now being pieced together of its owner's last hours, offers the tantalising prospect that archaeological remains could harbour more ancient brain specimens than thought. If that's the case, it potentially opens the way to studying the health of the brain in prehistoric times.
Source
Sounds like he was a little hot headed
Sounds more like he wasn't the most popular guy in town
So fucking metal
Imagine if they could piece together memories from it. Obviously we're a long way from doing it with living brains, but this thing isn't going anywhere now we've found it.
This is mind blowing
Worst hangover
Imagine if they could piece together memories from it. Obviously we're a long way from doing it with living brains, but this thing isn't going anywhere now we've found it.
its a burnt piece of brain, I don't think there's any memories to be had
its a burnt piece of brain, I don't think there's any memories to be had
even 1% of damage to a brain is significant enough to fuck you up permanently if I remember correctly.
its a burnt piece of brain, I don't think there's any memories to be had
I know that's a serious roadblock, but I was under the impression that memories were physical neural connections, which might be still intact. But I know piss all about brains, so maybe I'm just an idiot.

The brain at this point is probably more akin to your typical cake than it is to our brain.
even 1% of damage to a brain is significant enough to fuck you up permanently if I remember correctly.
Then again you have people that get half their head blown off and still survive
even 1% of damage to a brain is significant enough to fuck you up permanently if I remember correctly.
it very much depends on where the damage is - as long as you don't touch the lower-level stuff like the brainstem you can cut out as much as half your brain and technically still function (level of functionality depending on what you cut out and when you cut it out)

If you knock if off balance then quite often it stops working in the same way and you lose the memory.
Nah, the neurons will be massively degraded. The brain at this point is probably more akin to your typical cake than it is to our brain.
Have brain. Boil brain. Wait four thousand years. Have cake.
Would make a cool ornament
even 1% of damage to a brain is significant enough to fuck you up permanently if I remember correctly.
huh, where did you read this? I don't know much about brains, but I saw a show with a guy who had a harpoon shot into his head and it was lodged into his frontal lobe and he's working like he was prior to the accident today.

The accident had a major impact on his personality.
If you're talking about Mister Gauge, he didn't get off scott-free. (Usually the result of a nail gun misfiring.)
Jesus Fuck if removing half your fucking brain isn't the most dangerous operation in use today then I'm kind of afraid to know what is.
It amazes me how we know enough to be able to remove half the brain and still have a reasonably functional human being. From the wiki page
One case, demonstrated by Smith & Sugar, 1975; A. Smith 1987, demonstrated that one patient with this procedure had completed college, attended graduate school and scored above average on intelligence tests. Studies have found no significant long-term effects on memory, personality, or humor after the procedure,[2] and minimal changes in cognitive function overall.

SHAKEN, scorched and boiled in its own juices
Sounds like a friday night to me.
The soil must have been damn good to preserve something like that for such a long time. I hope we learn a lot from it.
Sounds more like he wasn't the most popular guy in town
yea the whole town summoned an earthquake because this guy was such a massive doucher
if I remember correctly.
sounds like you have 1% of damage to your brain
Trying to imagine how the fuck this even happened has left my mind fucked
Imagine if they could piece together memories from it. Obviously we're a long way from doing it with living brains, but this thing isn't going anywhere now we've found it.
That would be potentially awesome, provided if it's at all possible. (probably not) Imagine if this guy was some hilariously brilliant dude, but nobody took him seriously because he was too smart. So all of his memories are basically him having ideas about shit we have today and everyone calling him an idiot.
yea the whole town summoned an earthquake because this guy was such a massive doucher
The largest dickhead in the province
