GOP senators pitch Merrick Garland for FBI director
Merrick Garland, former President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, is gaining an unlikely ally: Senate Republicans.
A pair of Utah lawmakers, Sens. Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch, are urging the White House to include Garland’s name in the search for the next FBI director after President Trump fired James Comey on Tuesday night.
“I suggested that [the White House] ought to consider him,” Hatch told reporters on Thursday. “I didn’t say they should just pick him. I know they’ve got some really excellent people, but I said put Merrick in the list too.”
Lee separately floated on Twitter that instead of naming a special prosecutor for the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the presidential election Trump should “nominate Merrick Garland to replace James Comey.”
I don't understand US Jurisdiction at all, for who and how is it a trap?
Wasn't Garland the name of Final Fantasy boss?

They'd be pulling him off the Washington DC circuit court. This matters, according to Wikipedia, because:
While it has the smallest geographic jurisdiction of any of the United States courts of appeals, the D.C. Circuit, with eleven active judgeships, is arguably the most important inferior appellate court. The court is given the responsibility of directly reviewing the decisions and rulemaking of many federal independent agencies of the United States government based in the national capital, often without prior hearing by a district court. Aside from the agencies whose statutes explicitly direct review by the D.C. Circuit, the court typically hears cases from other agencies under the more general jurisdiction granted to the Courts of Appeals under the Administrative Procedure Act. Given the broad areas over which federal agencies have power, this often gives the judges of the D.C. Circuit a central role in affecting national U.S. policy and law. Because of this, the D.C. Circuit is often referred to as the second most powerful court in the United States, second only to the Supreme Court[1]
Step 1: Cockblock Garland's Supreme Court nomination because how dare a black man get to pick a judge
Step 2: Pull Garland off of the next closest thing to the SCOTUS and put him in charge of the FBI
Step 3 (pending): Invent pretext to have the President fire Merrick Garland from his position as FBI Director, since it's far easier to do that than fire a judge
Now you can fill another critical judicial seat with a hand-picked crony and you can either hand FBI Directorship over to a crony, or see if any other patriot bureaucrats want to volunteer to be purged. Now that's what I call making America great.

If they took him off his current appointed-for-life job they would almost certainly replace him with a conservative. Merrick should stay where he is.

Holy shit, that is fucking disgusting and some conspiracy level of corruption.
He can turn it down, right?

He isn't this smart and cunning…is he?

It's not his doing, he doesn't need to be smart, he just needs to be persuaded to sign off on it. And this is a man who put Steve Bannon on the national security council allegedly because he didn't read anything he was being asked to sign when he first got into the White House.
