THE FINAL WORDS of a young man who died on board the Titanic when it sank in 1912 has gone on display in Cork.Jeremiah Burke was just 19 when he boarded the boat in Cobh, known then as Queenstown, in Co Cork to set sail for America but perished in the disaster along with 1,521 other passengers and crew members.
However at some point on the trip before the sinking Burke, from near Glanmire in Cork, had written a note and put it in a bottle, throwing it overboard. The bottle – with the note still intact inside – turned up a year later… on the coastline at Glanmire. It was passed on to his grieving relatives.
The note was headed with the date 10/4/1912 – four days before the ship sank. It had a simple message: “From Titanic. Goodbye all. Burke of Glanmire, Cork.”
Pretty amazing, but tragic at the same time.

Little did he know how right he was when he threw that bottle :smith:
Excuse my ignorance, but why did he send the letter out 4 days before the ship sank?

He might have had some sinister plan of suicide or something.
Or he just did it for shits and giggles.

Maybe he was going away somewhere.

He must have thrown it right after the ship departed(Titanic departed April 10, 1912.), as a final goodbye to family, friends or whomever was lucky enough to stumble upon it.
I think the fact that the ship sank after is just a terrible coincidence.
Worst jinx ever.

I presume it was back to his family he'd left behind when he moved to America.
Wonder how many other letters and personal effects such as this there are resting inside and around the wreck.

Possibly he was emigrating, and probably not going to see his country/family/friends for a long time.
By the way, the places the article is talking about are all in Ireland, and the bloke is Irish too. (If anyone was wondering)

Pretty cool that it landed on the coast of his homeland.
I know hardly anything about the titanic. Maybe it took 4 days to sink from collision to their rescue?
What are the odds

it took like 2 hours to sink.
i'm sure this kid threw it overboard pretty much immediately after departure as a final goodbye to his homeland or something.
