Hey everyone.
A thought just occurred to me recently, do any of you people here in DD get high when you're sick/under the weather?
I didn't always smoke with the flu because I just thought that being sober would be the best way to get over it. Except here's what I've experienced: when I get over the flu the "normal" way, it would take maybe 7 days or so. Except when i get high while sick with the flu I would be recovered in maybe 4 days. I was thinking maybe it had to do with making me hungry and eating and that helping me recover, but maybe there's something else at work too. It certainly makes the flu much more bearable. Anyone have any ideas about that?
I'd also be curious if any of you use weed medicinally in any way, and how it helps, or any other "recreational" drug for that matter bar the obvious ones such as pain killers for pain.
I suppose I'll start, I usually find if i get high at night my anxiety the next day is much better and it helps with my chronic knee pain quite a lot. I prefer smoking weed for these instead of taking benzos or painkillers as the potential for me to get addicted is too much, I almost did get addicted to xanax and oxy on two different occasions and now don't use them at all, and for the anxiety i did try ssri's but they fucked with my head way too much.
Oh yeah I thought it'd be a great idea. I thought "shit home from school nothing to do but play video games, might as well get high."
It would be fun they said.
It would make video games awesome they said.
Next thing I know I'm in the doctors office with a horrible case of bronchitis. Lesson learned here, I'd like to give to everyone else. Smoking while you have a chest cold/sinus infection will most likely give you bronchitis.
When my throat is sore, i like to smoke a bowl or two. It makes the pain, when i sink, much more bare-able!
the thing about the chest cold and sinus infection thing is that you just use a vape.
problem solved.
i haven't been truly sick in probably more than half a decade because all my drug use made me not notice it probably.
well actually i have, but i just got high and went about my day. but i have vaped before while infected with viruses or some shit and it really really helps.

and no one's got time for that.
I just assumed and believe that you only feel better quicker because you're high..
I like to vaporize while I am sick. It doesn't make you feel like your nearly dying after every hit, like smoking does.
I know not everybody has a vaporizer, but mine was handy in these situations. Until I got arrested and the cops took it. :(

I guess proven medical effects are just because they're high
Well I don't really get sick. Its probably from the primarily dirty outdoor childhood I had (at least thats what I've always thought, built myself a kickass immune system I guess).
The only sickness I ever get is a light cold/blocked nose. I find getting high just makes the uncomfortable feeling worse, more intense and more annoying, and basically prolongs the cold. I become more aware that I can't breath through my nose and it seems that it gets more stuffed (if that makes any sense). But I do get high when I am feeling that little bit sick, because I love smoking weed and I ain't gonna say no to my brethren just because of a stupid stuffed nose.
Also the OP mentioned using ganja as anxiety medication. I wouldn't really consider anxiety a sickness but I do something similar. I try to use it to medicate my depression, with some varying results. It depends who I'm with though I think.

The EXACT same thing happened to me, except I had bronchitis in one lung and pneumonia in the other.
i had mild pneumonia and was forced to go on a camping trip in December in oregon.
also i forgot my sleeping bag.
it didn't get that worse, but it still got pretty bad. couldn't breathe i'd cough so much.
I personally always vape while sick, and also use weed for a knee injury from awhile back that bothers me every now and then.
I wouldn't advise it personally, but the once time I did smoke when I was sick, I used a vaporizer and it was pretty good.
Took away most of my symptoms and I forgot I was sick pretty soon.
Okay maybe vapes are alright. But at the time I was a little ass freshman smoking brick reggie ahhaha it was before the medical laws passed and the whole state was flooded with good bud.
Anyways, reggie smoke on my already giant tonsils, irritating my sinuses made my body produce more mucous. All of that extra mucous containing pus, dead bacteria/viruses, and alive ones, drips down the back of your throat into your chest, where you cough it up afterwards.
Shit sucks yo.

i'm high as shit
Bong is excellent at spreading the flu around, just so you know OP.
I had a god awful flu back in Jan. and NOTHING suppressed the nausea better than a few bowls. I felt like absolute shit. I have to honestly say it was the sickest I ever felt in my life. I smoked a lot less than I normally would but even the little bit helped. Plus getting stoned and playing a good game really helped take my mind off the fact that I was sick. The weed also helped a lot because before I smoked with the flu I was unable to eat, I didn't even look at food for the first two days after throwing up but thankfully the smoking brought forth a slight appetite and I was again able to eat. Even though all I ate was crackers but they were the best damn crackers I ever ate at that point in time. Thank you, Cannabis.
my vape is always on when ive got a cold/flu
I remember back in the days (7-8 months ago) I smoked weed everyday. When I got tired I got high. I also tried being high a week in school.

Where's the conflict in this story, oh wait, you smoke weed, there is no conflict haha.

I meant common illnesses, not cancer or other serious ailments.

Actually the conflict was that I did very bad on some tests. Though getting high when tired was pretty nice.
I can't quite recall but I remember smoking when I was slightly sick once. Made me feel better but my nose started running like a bitch.
I smoke when I'm sick because I hate being sick and being high makes the time justy flyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Got bronchitis from smoking with the infected.
So I smoked more.
My lungs cried in agony. I got high as balls. Totally worth it.

Jesus fucking christ man you're lucky you didn't get like double pneumonia. Just being around my parents cig smoke while having bronchitis (I don't smoke squares) was enough to make me cough up a gallons worth of green/yellow shit.
I dunno about you guys, but when I have a chest cold nothing helps more with treating symptoms than smoking a good half a bowl or so. I suppose it must be different when you have something more severe
I meant common illnesses, not cancer or other serious ailments.
Common illnesses that cause inflammation, fevers, allergies (not in all cases), the obvious nausea and vomiting.
Also from physical injuries, pain relief, muscle spasms can be calmed.
If you count motivational medicine as not a part of "because they're high", you can add that on.
