i think yahtzee hit the nail on the head here - while sony's entry into the next-gen market is decent, the other options are subpar at best the only console i may look at is the ps4, but i really don't see myself buying one
Man this generation of consoles is fucked ain't it? I mean PS4 is the only best bet and it's not entirely perfect. Having Console exclusives as a safe bet to get someone to buy the thing is just a downright awful business idea. Sometime really bad is coming next year, I can feel it. Alot of stagnating, exclusives, and companies having to apologize and figure out how to fix these problems.
I'm still happy with my PS2

I always consider getting the next gen consoles by the time the hype is all over and more games have been out because: A) You have an almost clear idea of what games are in what systems and if they are good or not rather than jump the shark with blind games B) The price of the console itself might drop down considerably enough for me to afford it
I'm still happy with my PS2
Likewise, but I am sticking up with my Dreamcast and Gamecube instead.
as everything stands right now I agree with him on nearly every part. Wii U doesn't really have anything going for it because there are almost no games on it, and out of the few there are there are even fewer I actually might want to play, ofcourse that might change in a few years, but that's still no reason for me to buy it now. Xbone looks like utter arse, and the only reason I find the PS4 appealing is that so far it seems better than the Xbone, but that may or may not be because we know almost nothing about the PS4, and even nothing is better than the Xbone.
Last night i dug up my old dreamcast and played through Sonic Adventure 1,Had more fun than any other console game out right now!
To be honest, I was out of consoles a long time ago. PS3 had MGS and Xbox had halo and then later, red dead redemption. now that I have played those to death, its been PC all the way.
Extra stuff = console gets worse?
When they start focusing on it instead of what made the console good, yes.
Extra stuff = console gets worse?
I mean, having extra stuff is great, but make sure the extra stuff is not something very gimmicky or next to useless. They are pushing the Kinect and the Media things on this new Xbox in order to make us think that "These things are not useless, because you will ALWAYS need them in order to play your game! Even if your game doesn't need such things!"
Yeah, perhaps spent 500 bucks on classic games for the PS2/Dreamcast/Gamecube and such then the PS4.
The "It lets you play fun games! These ones!" bit makes you realize how much gaming has changed since the 5th/6th gen
This may be a bit optimistic but this would be the perfect time for a company to come out with a no-bullshit gaming console, what would be even better is if it supported PC games too and was developed by a certain company we all love.
I always think that, in a bizzare turn of events, the OUYA and GameStick will destroy Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony :v:
I always think that, in a bizzare turn of events, the OUYA and GameStick will destroy Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony :v:
OUYA? Yeah, right.
The PS4 clearly appears to be the winner of the three. I wouldn't consider the whole social media thing to be all that bad, it's a strong marketing point and a lot of games are doing it already, so why not integrate it into the console. Sony doesn't just make the players do their own marketing, but also help developers get more groups of friends to play a game. Though, I'm not really the person to speak for this because I don't have a social media account, but it sounds good in theory. Just think about it: Guy posts about playing game or beating a highscore/achievement in that game, friend sees post, friend asks what kind of game it is, guy tells him, friend starts playing that game with him. In addition to that, there are a lot of good casual co-op or online games (which supports this form of marketing) coming out for the PS4 like Warframe, Planetside 2, Blacklight Retribution, this year's Call of Duty game, yet another Battlefield game and that thing Bungie was working on and haven't really said anything about yet. As well as the usual yearly casual sports games which will definitively support the social media thing. Even though with that said, I'm going to stick onto my 4 year old laptop for now, for the sole reason that I don't play console games that much.
When you step into an elevator with other strangers, it's usually an awkward silence with small talk about the weather. These new consoles are going to breed people in such a way that when they walk into an elevator together, I hope the fucking cable snaps I thought Myspace and Facebook were already too much social to be healthy. Then comes Twitter, and Your achievements going public, and now what you buy and how many hours you play is on display in Steam! This is teetering on ridiculous. Consoles should be Games Games Games, oh yeah we have time let's add a bit of a social aspect to it outside of games for good measure, not the other way around
I literally only got a 360 for Halo 3. Of course I got other games for it too after the fact. But as soon as it Red ringed' 2 DAYS BEFORE THE WARRANTY WENT OUT, I sold the damn thing. PC 4 lyfe
The WiiU is a decent console, but it lacks any games to back it up. This will no doubt be remedied later down the line, because Nintendo has a hold on some of the most popular exclusives of all time. For now though, I'll wait. The PS4 looks to be a decent console, but there is still a lot I'd like to know about it including it's opening roster of games. The Xbox One looks to be a console not unlike the PS4 but with a bunch of arbitrary and anti-consumer restrictions. It'll need some damn good titles to sell it for me.
I really wonder how the Xbox One will turn out once the sales are starting, because in my experience the bashing does not go further then on the internet. Hoping for a massive backlash though.
they couldve called the xbox the BOX THAT HAS CALL OF DUTY AND HALO and it wouldve sold millions
Extra stuff = console gets worse?
Kinect is stupid and the entire dashboard is just a fucking billboard of ads and social media crap We pay for Xbox Live Gold and in return we get our entire console covered in ads and promotions, that's just amazing
Extra stuff = console gets worse?
I don't mind extra stuff, i enjoy it. But Microsoft for example started to focus on Kinect and Sports way more then their own IP's/games. If i had to choose between the 360 and PS3 right now, i would go for PS3. But yeah 360 does has some nice exclusives.
Dolphin Shaggers sounds like a fun game.
Extra stuff = console gets worse?
That 'extra stuff' is what some people would prefer to call bloat. [editline]5th June 2013[/editline] Ads everywhere, useless player avatars...
It's sad that in a couple of generations (from my perspective at least) that i went from enjoying game consoles with the PS1 to never wanting to touch them with the PS4 and XBONE.
Extra stuff = console gets worse?
Extra stuff = core function of the console gets worse [t]http://i.imgur.com/MuHoPWq.jpg[/t] The Xbox is literally worthless nowadays besides a small amount of exclusives. Everything else is available and plays better on other platforms. (also: with third party games)
