Police said the incident began when two suspects approached a woman in the parking lot putting her baby in a car seat, and hit the woman in the head. That’s when a Good Samaritan stepped in to help her, and was subsequently shot multiple times by one of the suspects. Another bystander then shot one of the suspects, who died at the scene. The other suspect fled the scene, but was caught by a K-9 team east of the Wal-Mart.
http://fox4kc.com/2016/09/11/1-dead-2-injured-as-bystanders-thwart-attack-at-shawnee-wal-mart/ I don't get what could possibly motivate people to do such things. That Good Samaritan paid dearly for trying to help a woman in need - in an extremely public place. From the sounds of it, though, he should pull through.
That's a real hero, right there.
Glad that the good samaritan is still alive. Hope he will survive his injuries.

This wasn't my hometown, but in my town the news straight up warned people about the police saying to not go alone with your children due to a rise in attempted pedophile sex slavery. [editline]14th September 2016[/editline] also specifically concerning Walmart, for some reason
also specifically concerning Walmart, for some reason
Because it's a public place where there's a lot of people and you're liable to be distracted with shopping.
Because it's a public place where there's a lot of people and you're liable to be distracted with shopping.
...like literally any other large shopping building?
This sort of thing is not as uncommon as it sounds, When my younger brother was only 5 my Mom was ending her shopping and a similar altercation occurred, she was told to get into the passenger seat of her own car under threats of murder to her and my brother. No visible weapons from what my Mom says. Luckily my mom had done kickboxing and was able to scream and kick for long enough to get someone nearby to run over and help / call the cops. Which took longer than you'd hope, because of the whole "bystander effect" thing. Broad daylight, maybe 2pm, lots of people around. This was over 6 years ago and the official court case shit still isn't resolved. My brother luckily doesn't remember his view from the back seat, but I remember how my Mom looked when I came home from school that day. Remember to be aware of these possibilities when you're out and about. Some people are not so lucky.

Or at all, for that matter

That's some scary shit.

If there are people willing to kidnap susceptible younger kids to make money in any area, you can bet it's gonna happen. You just don't hear about it nearly as much because it's usually just written off as a missing person's report.
who the fuck attempts a mugging in broad daylight with bystanders? Or at all, for that matter
People are fucking crazy, dude. Part of the reason I'm a little paranoid out in public. Whenever I park somewhere I like to be able to see my car from where I am (especially if I'm at a restaurant) because I'm paranoid someone will either break in or bump into the car and drive away [editline]14th September 2016[/editline]
Up until now I always thought of the sex slavery being fueled though human smuggling across borders and whatnot, but I never gave it a thought that people would abduct straight from a supermarket parking lot.
...like literally any other large shopping building?
Wal-Mart's got a reputation.
Another bystander then shot one of the suspects, who died at the scene.
At least someone had a CCW and ended it. It's unfortunate that they weren't able to save the other Good Samaritan who was shot. This same thing happened to my Mom years ago at a Walmart. Two guys followed her to her car but she was armed so they backed off.
Good God, that's fucking insane.
Snip
...like literally any other large shopping building?
adding to the 'walmart has a reputation' bit, walmart really does have a stigma of the people going to it not exactly being upper class anythings, chances are anybody you mug/commit a crime against is going to have little/no sway to have anything done about it outside of a police report and maybe getting a generic looking face sketch of a dude in sunglasses and a hood put up on the walls for a few weeks. Add to that the fact the parking lot is large and crowded with cars, it's easy to imagine you could walk right up to somebody without them thinking you're approaching them since people are walking to and from cars all the time, and will be out of sight as you're between cars in a sea of cars. Getting away for just the same reasons, you can slink off and zig zag around, hop in a car and it'd be hard to figure out where you went man it always feels creepy coming up with probable scenarios for criminals to act
Did you not read the article? The good samaritan is still alive
The article worded it kind of weird
I thought that too but apparently they were both shot and one died.
it was one of the suspects who died
My bad. I thought he was the one who died at the scene. My reading comprehensive is bad, I read the source article too. I must have assumed shot multiple times = dead. Carry on without me.

This type of thing is still a rarity, especially in broad day light and in a parking lot to a major grocer.
