“What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over,” he continued. “So rather than make another sequel, I think it’s time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun.” It’s unlikely this new IP is another Souls-like project like Bloodborne. Miyazaki even ruleld out a Demon’s Souls remaster. “We want to try making new things,” he said.

Although the director said that he “cannot say for certain that the possibility is zero percent” of a Souls game ever happening again, it’s not on From Software’s schedule right now, and he personally wants to move on. “If a From Software developer come to me five years from now and begged, ‘please let me make another Dark Souls,’ then I will not rule out the possibility to let my subordinates start a new project,” he explained. (It wouldn’t be the first time, of course; Miyazaki did not lead Dark Souls 2.)
https://www.vg247.com/2016/04/27/dark-souls-3-director-already-working-on-a-new-ip/ He hinted in an interview previous that they were doing something science fiction. Whatever it is will be an instant get for me at least, this guy's amazing.
So what happened to the interview two days ago where he said he's not done with Dark Souls, but would rather spin the series in a different direction?
So what happened to the interview two days ago where he said he's not done with Dark Souls, but would rather spin the series in a different direction?
He was saying before Souls 3 even came out that it was the end of the series for now. But I guess he'll leave the Souls series in the B-team's hands incase From wants to reapproach it again and go on to make newer projects. Sci-fi instantly had me think Armored Core, but probably not the case.
I just realized the thing I was referencing was a year old, so maybe he changed his mind :V Woops.
as long as it's original games rather than sequels it's fine I guess. wouldn't want to see bamco scrape together a team to push a new dark souls game every two years either.
Sounds good to me, didn't seem like DS3 added much more to the series (people mostly just appreciated it for being more of the same), and Bloodborne's changes were fairly well received from what I gathered. So him trying something even less constrained by Dark Souls' formula sounds good to me.

They still have two games left in their contract with Sony iirc. Wonder what they could be.
Sci-fi Style Dark Souls game please.
I can imagine we'll see this new IP announced at E3 like they did with Bloodborne. I want some god damn mechs for once.
Bloodborne was one of the most compelling games I'd ever played, much like DS1. DS2 was, well, DS2, and DS3 is probably the most solid game in the series, but it retreads too much ground/is too familiar to people who have played the earlier games, which obviously is a symptom of all sequels. If new IPs means more games like Bloodborne then sign me up
They still have two games left in their contract with Sony iirc. Wonder what they could be.
Sony is most likely gonna ruin it by making them exclusives.
Sony is most likely gonna ruin it by making them exclusives.
Well yeah. That's why they made a three game contract.
Sci-fi Style Dark Souls game please.
The Lords of the Fallen developers started doing something like that. Looks promising, and I'd bet From could do it miles better.
Souls-style mech game would be neat. Maybe some ttgl style huge fucking mechs mixed with smaller ones for boss battles?
So the next two games that are PS Exclusive are going to be sheit already?
that's a bummer i was hoping for demon's souls remasters and maybe even dark 1

iirc From owns Dark Souls and Sony owns both Demon Souls and Bloodborne
yeah, but I'm pretty sure they own the franchise
I can't find many sources, are you sure about that? I think that they own the Dark souls IP while Sony owns Bloodborne and Demon Souls Edit: ninja'd
iirc From owns Dark Souls and Sony owns both Demon Souls and Bloodborne
Yeah, the only reason Demon Souls and Bloodborne are Playstation exclusive is because Sony owns them and funded them
Yeah, the only reason Demon Souls and Bloodborne are Playstation exclusive is because Sony owns them and funded them
Which confuses me on why people ask From about a Demon Souls remaster. They kind of have no say in it considering Sony can go to a studio like Bluepoint Games to touch it up and port it over.
Can we get a new Armored Core for PS4 maybe :v:
Sci-fi Style Dark Souls game please.
I'm still game for mech-based Soulslikes. Hopefully it'll even end up on PC like Dark Souls did?
In the full interview he said a new AC title isn't out of the picture. I'm sure they're more concerned about finishing their Sony contract before doing their own thing again.
Yeah, the remainder of the Sony contract makes me think any new FROMSOFT games have no chance to make it on PC. Seems like when people said they wanted Dark Souls on PC, FROM/Bamco thought people just wanted the Dark Souls IP on PC and nothing else by FROM. Either way, I'm excited to see what FROM has in terms of original content. Before souls-esque games and their sequels, they were known for mech games and their sequels, and before mech games, they were known for Kings Field and its sequels. FROM really seems to be a company that cashes in on sequels, or at least used to be given how much Miyazaki wants the company to make original content.
I am glad. I have experienced some Souls burnout over the past near-decade and I'm ready to let it all rest. I love the series, but playing five iterations of this series I'm read to move on.
chromehounds reboot plsss
