Kanye West Twitter: Rapper asks ‘white publications’ not to comment on black music
West has been very active on his Twitter account, leaving people scratching their heads as to whether his sporadic avalanches of tweets are legit or not. Is it all a ploy for attention? Is he sincere? Is the perceived millionaire actually $53 million in debt, as he claimed on Sunday?
Things culminated in an unpredictable series of tweets just before the 58th Annual Grammy Awards started up on Monday — these tweets were specifically directed at what West deemed “white publications” covering and commenting on black music. West asked for publications like The New York Times and Rolling Stone to stop writing about it.
Kanye is either doing some sort of odd publicity stunt, or having a meltdown on twitter
Publicity stunt for sure. Kanye is an egotist and he wants his work to be heard far and large, and "white publications" not reporting on it would be kneecapping him somewhat, on top of being retarded. Making his request public is just another way to spread his name
He's as much a showman as he is an artist. Saying something about "white publications" is pretty much guaranteed free publicity for his new album.
My music will only be on Tidal. Because I don't want to make money.

"He's only pretending to be an asshole."
Isn't that.. sorta racist?
He really doesn't know when to shut the fuck up.
kanye west is garbage and this moronic cult people developed around the dude like he's the second coming of music itself is laughable
i thought it was ironic at first but then people started getting really upset when i said he was shit
back to the days of segregation when there was only white music for white people and black music for black people
Isn't that.. sorta racist?
Cheapest litmus test is to swap whatever race/gender/etc and see if it still sounds passable.

Oh fuck I'm dying halp
My sides god dammit
West asked for publications like The New York Times and Rolling Stone to stop writing about it.
Oh, but Mark Zuckerberg should give you $1 Billion USD to get you out of $53 million worth of debt and "invest" in your "ideas". Or is it different because he's Jewish? Because both the NYT and Rolling Stone are headed by Jews. Which publications are the "white" ones?
And this dude wants to run for POTUS.
No thanks.
People are only reporting on this because TLOP, its not out of the ordinary for him to do crazy ass rants and I'm sure hes stressing from TLOP. Do we forget the 2009 debacle with Swift or his constant run in with paps? Just regular old Ye'
Dude should spend less time praising himself and god, and spend more time going to a shrink.
Dude should spend less time praising himself and god, and spend more time going to a shrink.
i think that he will reach the point where saying "praising himself and god" would become a redundant statement in his eyes

Careful dude, you might cut yourself on that sharp edge of yours.
Attempting to deny that Kanye's music isn't actually good is like saying the sky isn't blue. I get that you hate the guy, i don't much him either, but his music is genuinely good. It's essential rap listening. You might not like it, fine, it isn't for everybody, but you're fucking wrong by trying to present him as garbage. Kanye is still one of the most talented rappers in the game, up there with people like Kendrick, Killer Mike, and MF DOOM.

pre-kardashian kanye was good and he's definitely got classics under his belt but his newer stuff doesn't hold up so well in my opinion, at least not comparatively. it's all down to taste, although it's natural for people who aren't exactly fans to be put off by his image and self-presentation. remember how the media did everything they could to portray axl rose as an arrogant asshole (regardless of what might be said, the dude's always been incredibly humble) because of the whole "bad-boy image" thing? kanye seems to go out of his way to generate that same brand of controversy, it just gets hard to tell whether it's a publicity thing or simply just self-obsessed lunacy

whats edgy about what i said lol that's not how you use that word
essential rap listening who the fuck are you kidding the guy is literally an overblown pop artist that got a lot money and notoriety at the start of his career and then decided to stand out from the crowd of "the celebs" by not only crowning himself as the best out there but also making all these really weird "niche" and unintelligible garbage songs, and then proceeded to call that shit art
then started a line of clothing that literally crashed and burned because nobody cares about his hipster quasi-"reinventing fashion" attitude that has its roots, again, in his musical career.
the dude thinks he's pushing the envelope of hip hop and rap, when in reality he's just making an uninspired mess and then imposes deeper meaning to said mess to appeal to, well, fuck knows who because he went off the deep end a long time ago and if his recent financial crisis is true, then no one should be surprised.
stop putting this dude on the same level as actually successful and sane artists like kendrick and killer mike, he's not deep, he's not reinventing anything, he's not pushing boundaries, he's a rich pseudo-artist that went fucking bonkers and is by large irrelevant to the scene.

Regardless though, every major Kanye release has fundamentally changed the landscape of modern rap music. He's arguably been the single most influential artist in the rap scene for 10+ years, and that includes newer stuff like Yeezus.
Like the music or hate it (and him for that matter), he's probably one of, if not the most important figure in modern music (or at least rap).
Plus, the more personal, introspective moments in his music do imply that it's atleast partly an act. I think deep down he is a deeply insecure person and he's using his music and this public persona he's created for himself to explore the ramifications of being a modern celebrity.
Or maybe I'm just a complete wanker looking for meaning in stupid shit :mystery:

>Implying Kendrick and Killer Mike would be the artists they are without Kanye's influence
Also, there's this thing called "Personal taste" that you don't quite seem to grasp. Clearly his music appeals to a whole bunch of people, seeing as he's one of the most successful recording artists in history. You're not some font of good taste who gets to speak for what is "objectively good".

Rap is the whitest shit in the world now, what are you talking about Kanye.

You clearly have no investment or understanding of rap or streetwear culture so don't comment on it, Ye brought the whole singsong generation of RNB-Rap singers to the forefront with 808's, he has a hand in influcing these insane superstars to the limelight with a style he pioneered, like Drake and Cudi. To say he has no impact on the rap game is honestly, quite a dumb thing to say. He's directly produced classics like Izzo, Takeover, Heart of the City and Never Change on the Blueprint for Hova which is arguably a essential piece of Rap listening. What about Jesus Walks being number one on the top 100 billboard? What about Slow Jamz? or his six albums which have gone platinum? Even if you don't like his rapping his production style on his albums has influenced rap greatly from his soulful college dropout days, his bravado and Braggadocio in MBDTF and Watch The Throne to his self destructing aggressive style on Yeezus (which by the way Travis Scott had a hand in helping, yet another insanely upcoming popular artists) If he's such a piece of shit artist why the hell did Paul McCartney of all people make a song with him?
As for his streetwear line, yeah its totally a flop with his shoe line with Adidas that sells out instantly or his widely reported on Yeezy season collections right?

EDIT: Pop artist, come the fuck on man. Yeezus couldn't be any more anti-radio if it tried, if you think hes in it for radio spins with the come up hes had you're delusional.

Are you sincerely bashing The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation?

You mention Graduation but not MBDTF?

he does have a few renowned classics, id probably say stronger and touch the sky as a few, his newer stuff is pretty good but it's filled with ego
he was successful, then ego got to his head, now he's fucking going nuts and acting like a cunt
You mention Graduation but not MBDTF?
I don't think there's a definitive BEST Kanye album, I'd say MBDTF has very strong production on it but its a real mixup, each one of his albums past Graduation are distinct in their sounds.
You mention Graduation but not MBDTF?
I haven't gotten around to anything post-Graduation yet. Too much shit to listen to in this life. But to deny his first three albums is friggen bananas.
Kanye is either doing some sort of odd publicity stunt, or having a meltdown on twitter
Probably both.
Also white or black, Kanye's music is still shit.
Kanye has literally never made a bad album
Say what you want about him as a person but he's indisputably one of the most influential and greatest artists of the 21st century thus far.
