(CNN) -- A suspected U.S. drone strike killed nine militants in Pakistan's tribal region on Sunday, the second such attack in 24 hours in the region, a local government official said. The drone fired four missiles at a militant compound in Wacha Dana, a village in South Waziristan near the Afghanistan border, the official, Javed Marwat, told CNN. South Waziristan is one of the seven tribal provinces. The area is thought to be a safe haven for militant groups fueling the insurgency across the border in Afghanistan. It was the 20th drone strike in Pakistan this year. U.S. officials rarely discuss the CIA's drone program in Pakistan, though privately they have said the covert strikes are legal and an effective tactic in the fight against extremists. A day earlier, a suspected strike near the town of Wana in the same province killed two militants after the drone fired two missiles at a motorcycle they were riding, Marwat said. The Obama administration justified its use of unmanned drones to target suspected terrorists overseas in a rare public statement recently, with John Brennan, the president's top counter-terrorism adviser, saying the strikes are conducted "in full accordance with the law." The program utilizes unmanned aerial vehicles, often equipped with Hellfire missiles, to target al Qaeda operatives in remote locations overseas -- often on the territory of U.S. allies such as Pakistan and Yemen. Brennan said the United States "respects national sovereignty and international law" and is guided by the laws of war in ordering those attacks.
Source: http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/03/world/asia/pakistan-drone-strike/index.html?hpt=wo_c2 Full accordance to what law, that allows transgression into a sovereign country to kill whom you please?
Suspected drone strikes? Can't be too sure if it was a drone strike or not eh?

I wonder how many drones we have flying around the whole region. Almost makes you wonder if the insurgents live in a sort of Matrix mind set. Always hiding from the lurking robotic hunters. I hate to use a movie reference but that's the best I can describe it. They're constantly in hiding from mechanical hunter killer's that are vastly more advanced than they are.
matrix? that sounds more like terminator to me
Matrix-style scenario sounds far more terrifying imo, also good job, 9 less less people in this world to spread violence and hate.

When I read that bit about the two "militants" shot whilst riding their motorcycle, I can't help but remember that video on LiveLeak of the attack helicopter that shoots a whole crowd of "militants" wielding suspected AK47s (which later turned out to be cameras) and the children in the van who were shot when their parents attempted to help the injured "militants". The US is extremely trigger happy and (from that video on LiveLeak) remarkably lack empathy when it comes to the shooting and killing of citizens other than their own.

The whole area is still tribal as fuck, with a fair few of the fighters there not interested in anything other than fighting for their turf. Those are the guys that are getting targeted as well, but it's such a mess on that border I wouldn't even know what to suggest. I still find UAV's very awkward though, the disconnection from it and the need for much better PIT.
They call them militants yet they are nothing more then civilians
They call them militants yet they are nothing more then civilians
Shhh, they had guns and aren't in the formal military, so they're militants. Oh shit, America is chuck full of them!
They call them militants yet they are nothing more then civilians
Tell that to all of the Soldiers killed by "civilians".
Tell that to all of the Soldiers killed by "civilians".
In the end, it's all nothing more than political semantics.
In the end, it's all nothing more than political semantics.
So what would you call me then? I am a person, that is trained to engage and destroy people, and am issued a firearm to do so. So would that make me a civilian with good training and a gun? No. It makes me a soldier. So when people that have guns and explosives that engage other people over there, and have some training, does that make them civilians as well? No. It makes them a combatant. The "political symantecs" argument does not hold much water at all.
i hate how vague these articles are. so much word-play and not enough factual information for my liking
