(Very sorry if late)
A student was reported to have been spit on by his fellow classmates at a teacher's urging in an incident that allegedly occurred in the Shenandoah Elementary School music room on Monday, Oct. 8. According to numerous posts on Facebook from Alexandria Kindopp, including one on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Facebook page, her son Jaxon was spit on by his fellow classmates after they were told to do so, by a female teacher. Shenandoah Superintendent Jeff Hiser said, “The district can not discuss this or any particular incident as it is a confidential personnel and/or student matter. I can say that the safety and well being of students is the district's first priority and it takes all claims of bullying and harassment seriously and investigates all complaints it receives and responds as the investigation warrants.” Hiser added the teacher has been placed on leave. In the Facebook post, Kindopp said Jaxon was sticking his tongue out and blubbering to a classmate. As a consequence to Jaxon’s behavior, the teacher told his classmates to spit on him. It wasn’t Jaxon that informed Kindopp of this situation, but rather the teacher, who supposedly called Finley around 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 8. The post reads that the teacher admitted that it was an error in judgment, but did not apologize. Once Kindopp spoke to the teacher, she went and asked Jaxon what had happened that day. “He said he had been giving a student a hard time by doing a raspberry at him. He said the music teacher saw him doing it and asked him, "How would you like it if someone did that to you?" Jaxon said he shrugged his shoulders. Jaxon then told me that the music teacher turned to the class and said, "Ladies and gentleman, spit away.” He said he was sitting at his desk and the entire class, except one student, gathered around him and began spitting on him,” read the post. “He said while the children were spitting on him, the music teacher said, ‘Why are you putting your hands up?’” Later that evening, Kindopp said Shenandoah Elementary School Principal Tiffany Spiegel contacted her and said she was aware of the event and that the music teacher and Spiegel had a plan of action. Kindopp said since the incident, Jaxon has gotten ill and was put on an antibiotic. Additionally, she said her son is afraid of the music teacher. “He said he felt extremely embarrassed, and was afraid of what the music teacher would do to him.” Calls to Kindopp have not been returned.
http://www.southwestiowanews.com/council_bluffs/news/shenandoah-teacher-allegedly-tells-classmates-to-spit-on-student/article_acddd454-19f9-11e2-828f-001a4bcf887a.html Iowa the land of corn, causes weird things
That's rude as hell.
The fuck?
That was just downright uncalled for
Why did they listen? Don't the kids realize it's not right?
Why did they listen? Don't the kids realize it's not right?
I highly doubt they all did it.
I highly doubt they all did it.
according to Jaxon himself "the entire class, except one student, gathered around him"
Why did they listen? Don't the kids realize it's not right?
Students are programmed to follow a teachers orders no matter what. Especially elementary.
Kindopp said since the incident, Jaxon has gotten ill and was put on an antibiotic
If he got sick from being spit on I think this a good reason to sue the fuck out of the teacher, no matter how small or trivial.
I knew this bully once who just spat on people and said menacingly that he would "brain" them.
That one kid who didn't listen to the teacher is seriously great. As for the teacher, I hope she likes lawsuits.
iowa is fucking weird
iowa is fucking weird
As an Iowan I can confirm this, one of my substitutes once threatened to give a pocketknife tracheotomy to a student because she coughed in the middle of a lecture.
I guess he was spit out of luck.
I would say the problem is divided in half. 50% is that the teacher would tell them to do it. 50% is that the students actually did it.
