Police say a 5-year-old male was playing with a .22 caliber rifle when he accidentally shot his 2-year-old sister.
The child was transported to the Cumberland County Hospital where she was later pronounced dead by the Cumberland County coroner.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
The Associated Press reports the 5-year-old had received the rifle as a gift.
What a buncha idiotic parents
Why would you gift a 5-year old kid a gun?
are you serioussssssssssssssss? WHY WOULD YOU EVER IN THE RIGHT STATE OF MIND GIVE YOUR CHILD A GUN! When he's five! A LOADED ONE!
Those poor kids. I hope that boy grows up alright.
Why would you gift a 5-year old kid with a gun?
because it's a .22 so obviously a toy
Those poor kids. I hope that boy grows up alright.
Sadly, he's more than likely going to blame himself for a very long time even if his parents don't.
irresponsible firearms handling 101
Why the fuck would you give a 5 year old an actual rifle
Wow what stupid parents, if you're going to give a gun to someone that young you make sure it's safe and not loaded.

Letting kids learn basic firearm safety under supervised conditions is a good idea to familiarize them with the proper use of firearms. Plenty of people do it completely safely by standing right by their kids while they knock a few off at the range.
Doesn't really transition very much to letting a 5-year old swing around a loaded rifle, though.

There's a massive difference between letting your kids shoot a few rounds in a controlled environment and giving him his own goddamn gun holy shit why would you fucking do that
you could teach a kid firearm safety with a fucking plastic bb gun :v:
still a stupid idea to give a kid one of those but it's still a better idea than a fucking firearm jesus christ
Parents will probably be charged with manslaughter.
From the Huff Post article:
White told the newspaper that the boy received the rifle made for youths last year and is used to shooting it. He said the gun was kept in a corner and the family didn't realize a shell was left inside it.
Still, doesn't excuse the fact that the gun should have been kept out of his reach when he isn't under supervision.
Why do rifles for youths exist in the first place?
Why do rifles for youths exist in the first place?
cus a big one is too heavy and would kick too hard
Is it me or are Americans really crazy about guns?

For some reason, I thought this thread was about a 5-year old bashing his sister to death with a gift box.
The parents screwed up if their kid is playing with a gun and hadn't even bothered to check if it was loaded as well as having the safety off
All 3 of these things wouldn't have happened if this kid was responsible enough to have a rifle
Is it me or are Americans really crazy about guns?
Crazy is a understatement.
I wouldn't have problem with getting a gun for my kid, but go, "here's your gun, you will only get ammo for it when I take you to the shooting range, where I keep an eye on you at all times, until you are older".
I am all for letting kids get some potentially dangerous stuff in hands as long as they are STRICTLY supervised at ALL times when handling it.

Oh boy, go into any gun crime related news thread.
Imo its really stupid to even have guns for kids. You can do all that gun training shit with your own firearm, or just give them a bb gun. My dad gave me his red ryder bb gun and tought me trigger dicipline with it. I mean the worst you can do is shoot someone, but it definitely wont be fatal.
I'm a little afraid the parents won't be smart enough to realize that this tragedy is largely due to their poor decision, and instead the poor kid will grow up listening to "YOU KILLED YOUR BABY SISTER YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD FOREVER RARARAR"
Maybe the parents did it by accident and blamed it on their kid.

I was hoping for a heartbreaking article about how a brother gave his dying sister a gift.
Fucking insanity
"familiarizing him to firearms"
At five years old???
These are the words of a madman

Not really, my parents did it when i was only a year older and i never had any accidents. Same goes for a ton of people. If your kid is living in the USA, they should know the basics of gun safety.
