Tennessee governor signs 'therapist bill' into law
(CNN)Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam on Wednesday signed a bill into law that allows therapists and counselors with "sincerely held principles" to reject gay, lesbian, transgender and other clients.

In a written statement to the media, he said two of his concerns had been addressed by this most recent version of the bill, which passed the state Senate on April 6. The first requires therapists and counselors to treat people who are an imminent danger to themselves or others. The second mandates the mental health professional arrange a referral to another counselor or therapist.
That's rather shameful
Not that I think this is right, but if I were gay I'd not want to go to those counselors anyways. They'd probably give some kind of gay conversion therapy. I wouldn't really trust their legitimacy as a mental health prfoessional
this is the same governor who is firing all maintenance and shop staff at UTK to replace them with minimum wage workers under one giant corporation
even the subways and starbucks here are actually just Aramark corp. working pittance wages; Aramark pays franchises to duplicate their appearance and operations while denying workers any real pay or benefits
and who is using lengthy disruptive construction projects immediately adjacent to local restaurants to choke them out of business so that they sell the land to apartment construction projects
and who is signing a bill to ban the university from spending its self-raised money on any matters related to promoting campus diversity
We're seeing the last desperate gasps of de jure LGBT discrimination in the US
If you don't want to work with members of the LGBT community, people who are statistically more prone to mental issues, why are you even working as a therapist?

It's still a shitty bill but these inclusions do help a bit.

Because they are pseudo scientists believing that they can help people with guidance from the Lord and clients just aren't ready for the big reveal.
these are the people that create mental health problems
Once again another fantastic American case of "if my beliefs are offended I get a free pass to be a huge piece of shit and get away with it"

It's stuff that makes me want to switch my minor in psychology to a major and actually commit to helping people, but I don't think I can handle it and don't think it's very secure as a job. Every time I see this weirdass spiritual or religious homeopathic therapists I basically see it as either someone is going to be really unstable afterwards with bottled up emotions or someone is gonna snap and kill themselves. This shit is ridiculous.

If only.
It really feels like LGBT rights have fallen in the past decade but opinions of LGBT folk has risen.

It's like the 60's, we're getting close, but theres gonna be a shitfest before it gets better.

What
gay marriage being legalized and a number of state improvements to adoption and transgender rights is far more than what the LGBT community had in 1990.
Why are so many hell bent anti - lgbt laws being me

to pander to angry conservative voters made angrier by societal progress
Those who have the most to benefit from the status-quo are usually the ones most likely to get upset when it changes.
You can definitely tell these piece of shit states are feeling threatened because the attacks on LGBT rights has gone through the ceiling following the federal legalization of same-sex marriage.
"We can't stop those darn gays now, so let's just go after everyone else!"
Jim Crowe electric boogaloo, then?
I think there's a small silver lining to this - the LGBT community now can openly know which counselors and therapists to avoid.
