Hey i just wanna hear what you think is a good program for making music? It should just be simple and fun to mess around with. I made the thread here because i know all you guys in here are FREAKING talented. And you can probably give me the best answer.
If you haven't done anything at all until now, then you might want to try FL (fruity loops) Studio.
Yeah, pretty much 1-upping Failboat on this one. It's got a pretty beginner friendly UI as well as a ton of presets to mess around with. It's a good place to start!
Plus you can rewire other programs into it. I use FL as a base but dont use any of its plugins.
If you are on a budget and simplicity, Reaper is the best way to go, works well with a MIDI keyboard, but if you lust for something a bit more technical then definitely FL Studio 8 or Pro-tools. That is if you have copious amounts of money :haw:
Try the FL Studio Trial.
Yeah, loads of money :downs:

Cubase is good, but maybe hard for a beginner to grasp.
I heard Ableton live is good... Then I googled it... And then I shat my pants about the price. Then I bought Magix Music Maker 15 for about 19 Euros at a local store. Pretty good, but really basic.
FL Studio or Cubase
I use Sonar for recording and midi, I would not however recommend it for beginners, try something like FLStudio, it's quite nice, and it's where I started with vSynths.
I learned on FL and switched to cubase after about a year. FL is great to learn on but the workflow in cubase is so much nicer (IMO), and that's all a saw choice is as log as you're using a real raw. Ignore anyone that tells you otherwise. Pick up FL and a nice simple free synth pluton like TAL elektro and just focus on learning the basics. Don't go out and download loads of plugins that you don't know how to use or anything like that.
Ableton Live. Gyeeeaaah.
Hey, I may as well ask while this thread is going rather than making a new one - so, the aforementioned programs are good for beginners? Can you make music completely digital, that is, without input via keyboard or recording instruments? I've been interested in having a play about, but not sure what's the best to use.
Audacity for extra editing. Its a really good program.
Sibelius.
Linux Multi Media Studio free application, you can do anything in that application like in the FL Studio
