The Johnson Amendment refers to a change in the U.S. tax code made in 1954 which prohibited certain tax-exempt organizations from endorsing and opposing political candidates. It is named for Senator Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas, who proposed the bill.
Oh shit
Let him do his thing, he's abolishing corruption, even if it's by completely opening the doors to more corruption.
Can anyone justify this?
Can anyone justify this?
I'm a Christian with multiple ministers in my family and I think it's pretty dumb.
Can anyone justify this?
MAGA
Tax-exempt corporations? Like what, non-profits and churches?
Tax-exempt corporations? Like what, non-profits and churches?
It's mainly aimed at stopping Churches from getting involved directly with politics.
I'm a Christian with multiple ministers in my family and I think it's pretty dumb.
My parents are pastors of a church as well (although I'm not Christian) and even they refuse to get involved in politics since it's such a touchy subject. If they had got involved in politics half their congregation would of left by now. This is Trump trying to solidify his hold by allowing Churches to proclaim 'Trump is the Christian vote!'
Every passing day makes me think that the NSF might have a point.
This is definitely going to happen, a Republican congress would never vote against this without destroying their reputation amongst the base.
so is our future gonna be post-apocalyptic and centered around religious conflict or corporate cyberpunk stuff because both look like they're becoming feasible
whatever happened to the separation of church and state, we kinda ignoring the founding fathers for our own political gain?
This also means Planned Parenthood and Unions can have a much greater voice in politics.
churches need to use that money helping out the needy like the bible states instead of throwing away money to politicians or political parites
Sounds more like something Mad Man Bannon wants to dispose of more than Trump.
whatever happened to the separation of church and state, we kinda ignoring the founding fathers for our own political gain?
No because Trump is the best and he knows what is good for this country.
GEE I WONDER WHO COULD HAVE PUT HIM UP TO THIS
This also means Planned Parenthood and Unions can have a much greater voice in politics.
You're acting like Republicans won't try to outlaw Planned Parenthood all together.
The Republican Platform included repealing this. [editline]2nd February 2017[/editline]
You're acting like Republicans won't try to outlaw Planned Parenthood all together.
Nah I'm sure they will but if they actually just repeal the law then that would be the effect.
The war on secularism already started so I can't say I'm surprised. Trump must have alzheimer's or something if he isn't questioning a single thing Bannon tells him.
You're acting like Republicans won't try to outlaw Planned Parenthood all together.
They are. They've already stated they're defunding it.
This also means Planned Parenthood and Unions can have a much greater voice in politics.
Seeing how unions aren't really a thing in the US I don't think it'll compensate for the church.
Any bets on how long it'll take for all the laws involving political corruption, environmental protection, and everything else preventing bad things from happening to be thrown out? I think it'll take about three months personally, at the speed everything's already being abolished or ruined.

They include "the belief that marriage is or should be recognised as the union of one man and one woman, sexual relations are properly reserved for such a marriage, male and female and their equivalents refer to an individual’s immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy, physiology, or genetics at or before birth, and that human life begins at conception and merits protection at all stages of life".
:scream:
FUCK
Like, legit, could anyone actually justify this? Are we honestly going to see such a regressive act in the United States?
