Exclusive: Carter Page testifies he told Sessions about Russia trip

(CNN)Former Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page privately testified Thursday that he mentioned to Jeff Sessions he was traveling to Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign — as new questions emerge about the attorney general's comments to Congress about Russia and the Trump campaign.
During more than six hours of closed-door testimony, Page said that he informed Sessions about his coming July 2016 trip to Russia, which Page told CNN was unconnected to his campaign role. Page described the conversation to CNN after he finished talking to the House intelligence committee.
Sessions' discussion with Page will fuel further scrutiny about what the attorney general knew about connections between the Trump campaign and Russia — and communications about Russia that he did not disclose despite a persistent line of questioning in three separate hearings this year.
Page's testimony was one of the more highly anticipated events in the congressional Russia investigations, given the scrutiny he's faced because of his connections to Russia and his visible role pushing back about his Russia ties in nationally televised interviews.

Sessions is fucked.
God it's so satisfying watching all of these fucks go down in flames
Is it really gonna be Christmas every day?
This time one week ago, we didn't yet know Mueller had indicted anyone and most thought it would be months before he did
Wew
News tomorrow: "Sessions resigns!"
Mueller really did go full Ozymandias, didn't he? He is tearing down the lies, with proof, faster than new ones can be built, or deflected.
Gogo, Mueller!

Now realize that Trump can't just appoint his successor at whim, whoever he names must be confirmed by the Senate.
A Senate who must now contend with Mueller indictments against an increasing number of people from Trump's past and present inner circle.
Another One Bites the Dust.
Senator Franken is demanding Sessions explain himself amidst these new revelations, stating, amongst other comments...
“Once again, developments in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election have brought to light evidence that you failed to tell the truth about your interactions with Russian operatives during the campaign, as well as your awareness of Russian contacts by other members of the Trump campaign team,” wrote Sen. Franken in the letter. “This is another example in an alarming pattern in which you, the nation’s top law enforcement officer, apparently failed to tell the truth, under oath, about the Trump team’s contacts with agents of Russia—a hostile foreign power that interfered in the 2016 election. We must get to the bottom of what happened so that we can prevent it from happening again, and I am deeply troubled that this newest revelation strongly suggests that the Senate—and the American public—cannot trust your word.”

I'm happy more people in the Trump administration are getting fucked and all but I'm not too sure about Sessions.
Yes he's a serious piece of shit, but he's the only one protecting us from having Mueller fired is he not? If he resigns, gets fired, or gets imprisoned for perjury that leaves us with the possibility of Trump hiring just another sycophant who will fire Mueller.
Of course if that ever happens I have some hope that the Republicans would impeach but still, that relies on them growing some sort of spine (which I don't trust them to do).
Either way, more evidence of collusion is always great.

If Sessions is fired, Trump's nominee needs to be confirmed by the Senate. That takes time.
Time Mueller has to continue firing heavy artillery.
A ton of Republicans warned Trump not interfere and fire Mueller. I'm sure if he does the entire political world would be in an upheaval.
Senator Leahy is also demanding Sessions return to congress and testify under oath regarding this new information, stating in a press release earlier today:
“Attorney General Sessions needs to come back before the Senate Judiciary Committee. The description of the March 2016 meeting contained in unsealed court documents is impossible to reconcile with the Attorney General’s appearance before the Judiciary Committee just two weeks ago. In that hearing, he again testified under oath that he was not aware of any communications between individuals affiliated with the Trump campaign and Russian officials. The Attorney General was already given an opportunity to correct his earlier misleading answers to me and Senator Franken in January through written, supplemental testimony. Yet he only continued to mislead. He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he cannot seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions. [1]”
In sum: Coming soon to a CSPAN near you: "Sessions Goes To Washington, Part Three"

Edit: Chuck Schumer just said on the Rachel Maddow show that he also is going to demand Sessions come back and testify under oath. Also states that Mueller should have complete freedom and if his investigation is 'god forbid' interfered with would cause upheaval. Edit 2: States (regarding if Mueller's investigation was shut down) that the republicans are 'fearful' of the alt-right but he has confidence they could set up an independent council and restore Mueller to his job.

Maybe I'm just being needlessly pessimistic, but I don't see the GOP being assertive enough to hold Trump's feet to the fire in the event that he were to fire Mueller, based on seeing the GOP be total push overs and enablers for Trump.
I would be very pleasantly surprised to finally see some accountability applied to the Trump administration, though.

That's Dorito Pope to you, clone of Seth
It's official, then. Sessions got caught committing perjury, lying under oath. He is going to be indicted.
I just hope this further speeds up the timeline of a Trump impeachment.

How do you bring charges or an indictment against the attorney general?
He is going to be indicted.
Source? Or speculation?

Very carefully.

Toxx yourself right now if you don't think Sessions is going to be indicted. You know what BDA is saying and it's clear as day that he's fucked.

Might as well show some balls myself. :toxx:
Sessions is going to either be indicted, resign, or be fired by Trump by the time Mueller's investigation is over.
Escape clause: I must eat an entire American Flag cake (I'm not literally retarded like Starpluck) while singing the national anthem in one sitting, with my pet snake wearing an American flag party hat and cape on the table next to me, an American flag on the wall behind me, and dressed entirely in American flag apparel.

Boy I can't wait for Congress to drag him back to a nice little hearing

While it's good to hear you're not like our dear departed moderator, I do hope that the cake is of a respectable size.

Even if Sessions merely resigns and doesn't even get any prosecution his way, he still has enjoyed an entire wasted senate term.

Watch him try to wriggle out of it by saying "I never said 'no', I said 'I cannot recall' :^)".
