(I apologize if this counts as a blog and not news, I just figured this was worth discussing) http://www.upworthy.com/cnn-pays-touching-tribute-to-the-rapists-who-attacked-a-16-year-old-girl
CNN took an interesting angle on the Stuebenville rape verdict. They focused on the convicted rapists, and their lost potential, in what I can only assume was an attempt to milk the drama for ratings.
Fuck CNN.
I don't really understand how anyone with a lick of sense could be saying the shit they said. I mean really...what CNN said was pretty much the mentality of the town.
video link to those who want to see it without opening link The funniest thing is that the onion did the same exact type of thing like a year or so ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWLJZw9Ws-g
Cunt stands up to apologise for taking a picture, not for the rape. Real nice priorities. And the anchor: "What's the lasting effect of juvenile hall on two young men?" Better question you monobrowed sack of shit, what's the lasting effect of rape on a 16 year old girl?
Thats really disgusting, they're more concerned about the lives of 2 rapists having been destroyed for their 1 year in prison, rather than the actual victim of the crime. What the fuck CNN.
Best part: His father had never told him he loved him, until he raped someone.
Yeah becuase painting rapists as tragic misunderstood heros is a good thing. lobotimised fuck-wits.
God Bless the USA
Jesus are they racing to overtake Fox for bullshit?
My local radio station did an interview with Walter Madison, one of the attorneys for one of the boys. Here is a small clip, apparently they have the full thing on one of their podcasts. Name of the show is "The Billy Madison Show" in case you wish to check it out further. http://www.kissrocks.com/Player/101909381/

Won't anyone think of the poor rapists?
"I'm really, really sorry for raping your daughter. It was like a total accident man. Oopsies. Never gonna happen again!" These guys are fuckwits. They're crying because they got caught, not because they actually care that they devastated a poor girl's life.
Won't anyone think of the poor rapists?
Only if they're star high school football players.
Jesus are they racing to overtake Fox for bullshit?
succeeding too
This video smells like rape culture. Anybody who doesn't like that term should be pointed to this video.
Aaaaand this is why nobody takes US media seriously. I consider The Onion more creditable than most of it.
Reaaaallyy now...
RIP in peace rapists
Oh and Fox News as well as Yahoo aired the rape victim's name, too. Stay classy.
And the best part, CNN is removing comments like a DeviantART user with a giant ego.
They focused on the convicted rapists, and their lost potential
Wow 2 football players lost. What will we do without them?
I think they were trying to take an educational "dont do this shit because you will get caught and ruin your whole life" view point? But maybe I have too much trust/hope for the media to not be complete dumb shits

Don't rape people because of how you could hurt them, not because you might potentially fuck up your life. And, as statistics show, a lot of rapists actually go free.

Playing devil's advocate here, what should they talk about? The damage to the victim is already done, so what's wrong with pointing out how despite all their impressive achievements, the two boys are now having their lives justifiably ruined, showing that nobody is untouchable? CNN has definitely not been fair about this trial but there seems to be a contingent of people who believe that anything describing the perpetrators positively at all is defending them. I disagree, I think you can discuss someone's history and what impact the crime will have on their future without condoning or defending their actions. I've seen plenty of murder stories on TV that basically went '[x] was a good person and a devoted husband with a promising career, then killed someone and now they're fucked'. That isn't defending the murderer, it's just background. So, CNN trying to make us feel sympathy for the boys having to apologize for rape? Absolutely disgusting. But CNN pointing out that they were good students but their lives are ruined? That, at least, seems justified.
Don't rape people because of how you could hurt them, not because you might potentially fuck up your life.
When's the last time you saw an FBI warning telling you not to copy a movie because it'd make the copyright holder really sad? Teaching someone morals is fine in school, but out in the real world threats and deterrents seem to work much better than appealing to a would-be criminal's sense of compassion. I don't think most rapists rape because they don't realize they're harming the victim, I think it's because they feel they can get away with it.
Playing devil's advocate here, what should they talk about?
the victim, threats against her for testifying, the fact the entire town seemed to be involved in a coverup, that rape isn't okay just because the victim is drunk, using this as an opportunity to explain why many rape victims like this one initially didn't want to report it because of the intimidation, fear, and anxiety, our rape culture, and etc.? anything that doesn't involve making the two rapists who knew perfectly well what they're doing sound like kids down on their luck that spilled milk? anything that doesn't make rape sound so trivial
