This is according to tweets from January attributed to Rick Pasqualone who voiced Vito Scaletta in Mafia 2. 2K Czech developed Mafia 2 and Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven when it was known as Illusion Software before being bought out by Take-Two. In December, 2K announced a new studio called Hangar 13 which is being led by LucasArts vet and Star Wars game franchise director Haden Blackman. Blackman stated in the press release that the studio’s ambition is to “create next-generation games that allow players to shape their own experiences.” This led many online to speculate whether the Novato, California studio was working on the next entry in the series or at least helping out with development.
Thread music [editline]7th January 2015[/editline] Source: http://www.vg247.com/2015/01/07/mafia-3-2k-rumor-games/
Yes! Mafia II was an awesome game. I can't wait for Mafia III
Yes! Mafia II was an awesome game. I can't wait for Mafia III
Have you played the first? It hasn't aged the best but it's definitely a 10/10 game.
I hope this time there's more focus on sandbox. 2 had pretty much none.
Oooh yes, been waiting for this. Hopefully it's 10x better than Mafia 2 though
I seriously need to play M2. Loved the first one.
Mafia 1 Saliery dubber died just a while ago :C
Mafia 1 Saliery dubber died just a while ago :C
Seriously? Damn, I was hoping he'd come into play in the third game.
I have quite little faith in this, Mafia 2 might have been not a terrible game but to me, it never lived up to Mafia 1 by far. Mafia 1 is the focal point of my childhood gaming nostalgia, I highly doubt any game will ever come close to it for me.
Loved the direction with 2. More of a story of someone always at the bottom of the crime ladder, which worked really well. Shame they hacked out most of the game so that any open world element was DLC. Still, got those parts cheap and got my money's worth.
Seriously? Damn, I was hoping he'd come into play in the third game.
I am not sure if he did dub him in the English dub as well as the Czech one, he was utterly fantastic in the Czech one, tho.
Wasn't there a leaked casting call that mentioned 2K Czech and the fact that certain characters needed to have italian accents for a game set in Louisiana?
I am not sure if he did dub him in the English dub as well as the Czech one, he was utterly fantastic in the Czech one, tho.
Yeah I checked, he died in 2010. I haven't played Mafia since like 2002/2003 but I still remember his performance being fantastic. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0225191/?ref_=tt_cl_t7
I really enjoyed the driving physics in Mafia 2. Excellent game, vastly underrated or at least underappreciated.
Both were amazing. M2's optimization was legendary for the way it looked. Can't wait.
i just hope they either make the sandbox part a bit better/more interesting to do this time around, or remove it completely and expand on another point instead. freeroam in 2 was so pointless and didnt have much to do
Mafia 1 was fantastic, loved the shit out of that game. 2 was alright, looked great but as others have said, could have done with being more sandboxy. Hopefully 3 is everything I hoped 2 was going to be, and besides, it'll look even better.
I heard Rockstar Games were assisting 2K Czech on Mafia III. If that's true, we can expect open world to be a lot better this time around. If there's anything Rockstar Games knows, it's open world.
I loved Mafia 2 even when all I played was the demo. After I got it, the driving felt so good and the cars all looked fantastic. I also got Mafia 1 but it definitely didn't age too well and didn't leave too good a taste in my mouth. Woulda been better if they kept the in-car shooting mechanics in Mafia 2, if just for a little fun. Man, Mafia 2 was great, just the feeling of driving in a Jefferson Provincial wearing a nice suit for the whole game as you kill off crime family after crime family just can't be beat. I wonder if Joe lives in the end, I hope he does.
Never played the first one past the first mission(because I couldn't get past it) but the 2nd was so much fun. Can't wait for 3.
Mafia I was such a god damn masterpiece, god. To fucking atmospheric, Jesus. [editline]7th January 2015[/editline] I could do with it going back to the 30's though. Maybe get some Noire going on. Maybe 40's too.
What really stood out to me in Mafia I was getting killed constantly, pulled over for running red lights, and having to go to the gas station.
Part of me wishes that Mafia 1 was getting a remake. Who knows, maybe for the 20th anniversary.
I remember making my cars supper gaudy with like purple and blue 80's windbreaker colors. And one of them was just bright red with gold lining with the license plate "Commie". Although I didnt think Mafia 2 was the best game ever, I didnt think the voice acting was very good, it was pretty fun, considering I got it for free from one of the many game giveaways on some website.
Mafia 2 was amazing imo. Lack of open world was compensated by the atmosphere. I also loved the shit out of the 1st one. I can't wait.
simulation driving is super fun in an open world setting and more games should offer it
I must be the only one who doesnt like the franchise, and i played both games, the first around the time it came out on the ps2.

After all, the beginning of the 70s were referred to as the golden age of the Mafia for a reason. Hopefully it won't have as many missed opportunities as Mafia 2 did.
Just remembered I have my copies of the 1st and 2nd in my steam library. Definitely going to have to give them another play through. Fantastic games.
I must be the only one here who though Mafia II was a piece of shit comapared to Mafia 1. I can't put my finger on it. M1 felt grounded in realism and M2 felt kind of gamey like other open world shooters.
