After two years driving rear-wheel drive cars, I ultimately surmise that in my climate and with my driving style I ultimately surmise rear-wheel drive to be simply impractical. So, after I sell my 240z, I intend to get a reasonably light but respectably powerful front wheel drive car but I never really kept up on the honda scene so I have no idea what I'm looking at. What's the fastest (in a straight line from a rolling start) honda you can get for around eight to ten grand in the northern US that still retains SOME daily drivability?
do older acuras count as hondas :v:
1999-2004 Acura TL's are in that price range, i dont know if they are the speed you want though
GET A 92-95 Civic Hatchback
Like this one....

92-95 hatch or 96+ hatch, save the rest of your money.
If you want fast and don't want so old, get a newer GTI.
Hondas are a lot easier to work on yourself, though.
My dad owns a 93 hatch. Nice car except I'd be afraid of dying if you got into an accident.
ugh hatchbacks are so fucking ugly please don't get one
Get a TL like Conk3r suggested, way safer than an older Civic, and are way faster too.
Okay, I'll keep looking at that year civic closely but for now
1. I think the Acura just looks bland
2. Every Civic hatch I find within that year range - at least on CL - seems to be some sort of badly modded unpainted shitbox.
I'm okay with paying over 10k if it means something with good value per money, just had to have a reasonable limit
Just want something that has some punch to it but doesn't have a lazy (ie American V8s, turbo motors) engine
I currently own a 1999 Honda Civic SI and I love the car. I highly recommend it if you can find a nice one. What I love about Honda's is they are really cheap, easy to find parts for and very easy to work on. Any stock civic will be slow in a straight line so you more in likely will have throw on some mods, engine swap or go boost. I plan on buying an EG hatch(92-95) and drop a k20a2 or k24a2 engine in. Just to let you know there are tons of haters once you enter the Honda game.
...you're selling your 240z and buying a civic?
for shame you fuck
Prelude.

Wait 8 to 10 grand RSX-S?
It's a tiny car, but I love my Honda Fit. If you shop well, you could probably get an older model, like the 07, for a little bit above $10,000.
8-10 grand FUCK you can get some built hondas
type-r swapped caged k20 hatch sound good?
and what does daily driveability mean, i could daily a straight downpiped 240, gutted on coils
Just looking for a daily driver / sleeper that has some kick to it, that's all. Nothing too drastic like driving a junglegym around.

Gotta wait till a EG or EK hatch pops up, then. Thanks guys.
I will sell you this Civic, haha. It's my DD and has only a few hundred miles since rebuild... Downside is, whoever had it before me painted some flames on it. .___.

Your best bet, the 1.6VTIs were the best engine dropped into those motors, the K20 is great but the B16 has some serious kick when crossing over to VTEC. It's also fairly easy to drop a B18 or even H22 engine and/or go down the forced induction route. With that kinda money to spend you could pick up a nice clean example with plenty of change to put some extra power down. The only way to get major power gains in a Civic is either an engine swap or forced induction, bolt-on Honda parts can be expensive and offer relativley small gains.
Or do what I did, buy a Honda Prelude 2.2VTI. Fairly cheap to buy (probably cheaper than a good EK), 200+bhp as standard, 4 wheel steering, leather seats, air con... Pretty much a luxury Integra Type R, they're both matched for speed. A truly great, overlooked car with room for improvment. Huge value for money cars.
If you're after something better on fuel then disgregard the above about Preludes, you'll be lucky to get 25mpg round town driving carefully. Makes me wonder how long I can keep mine for with fuel edging on £1.30 per litre.
I love my EG6, It gets great gas mileage and is still decently quick.
