The mech is closer to the Catapult than the Timerwolf.
SA2 is one of those games i refuse to replay because i know the disappointment will shatter my nostalgia bubble.
makes me think of how forgiving i was to things that seem like blatant design problems in hindsight
25 mintues to establish people love Sonic Adventure becaues of the Sonic/Shadow stages only?
And I actually agree Sonic could gain a lot by going back the Adventure formula.
Except, make every character a variation of Sonic instead of something stupid like Mech shooting

25 minutes to establish that the whole "go back to Sonic Adventure" is not all it would take to make a good Sonic game. Sonic Adventure at its core is pretty mediocre and rides on nostalgia. When only a 1/3 portion of the game can be considered good that's not saying much for the game's quality, yet everyone and their dog seems to think that slapping the name "Sonic Adventure 3" on the next big Sonic game would make it good.
IMO I think Sonic Adventure 1 did the shooting segments better.
Maybe I'm biased because Gamma's story was the only one I could go back and play through without cringing at the voice acting.
I disagree, the game overall is really good. The soundtrack is fantastic, and the stages (Even the Tails/Eggman levels) can be pretty enjoyable. The voice acting and story however can be pretty... Meh however. But when I play Sonic games, I did it for the game play mostly.
Also, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who hated how loud the music played. I could barely ever hear any of the characters.

Going back to beat SA 1 again, I realized how horrible the VA work and all of the characters mouth synchronization is. But that game play though, Gamma's shooting stages were the bomb.
Chao Garden is the most hype thing about that game, I'm glad he touched base on that, I was worried he wasn't going to.
I still haven't beat SA2 because that part with Rouge on the island with the time limit is fucking gay and dumb and I just sort of gave up on it. Also I've spent enough time watching enough people play for hours on farming that boring Chao garden so I don't have interest in it.

It's the exact opposite for me. I bought the game on steam and I still had as much fun with it as I did back when I was playing it on the gamecube years ago
Maybe I'm just really easy to please
I beg to disagree with him on the tails/robotnik stages. Tails/Robotnik stages were actually quite fun IMO.
The only good knuckles stages were the space one. It was hard to find anything because the level was so big, but it had a lot of fun stuff and your speed was actually useful.
Screw all the pyramid stages though.
I think the reason why he talks down the mech and treasure hunting is probably because he was expecting a sonic only game from all the praise. I actually like the variety.
Also he didn't talk about the extra missions in each stage, which gives you plenty of Sonic and Shadow playtime.
-Snip WRONG GAME-
Why does this guy keep going on you got to go fast all the time and how everyone hates it when you go slow in a Sonic game? Did he play any of the Genesis games?

I played Sonic Adventure 2 for the first time just last month and it was an awesome game.
Never played either of them before.

You go pretty fast in the genesis games though.. just because it's not 3D doesn't mean he wasn't going fast. It had some platforming bits but the main purpose of the game was to run through loops and obstacles fast.

No not really. The fast parts pretty much just took you between the platforming parts that made up like 85% of the gameplay. Like you spend most of your time doing precision platforming, solving puzzles, and finding secrets.
In short instead of a new sonic adventure game we need a standalone chao garden game.

In a perfect world we'd have one...

I can see a Chao Garden Mobile game doing really well for some reason.

Everyone in the universe can see why it'd be a good idea.
Everyone except for SEGA.
In a nutshell here's my opinion of each aspect of gameplay in the story mode of SA2:
Sonic and Shadow Stages: Easily the best stages in the game. I always have a good time whenever I play these.
Knuckles and Rouge Stages: Can be either tolerable or miserable depending on if the stage throws you a good, easy to find, emerald combo or not. "Mad Space" is by far the worst level of these kind of stages because it's too big for its own good. SA1 emerald finding was better due to the better radar alone.
Tails and Eggman/Robotnik stages: These are decent a good chunk of the time. Though I enjoy the Eggman stages a bit more, especially Eggman's space stage.

I don't mind variety, but the stage design and the awkward clunkiness of controls drive me nuts for the two (especially for the mechs, which don't like sudden turns and have traction/momentum that reminds me of slippery Luigi applied to a large and heavy target). And even worse, there's really no excuse for the radar bullshit - Adventure 1 let you detect any of the three items related to the stage's objective so long as you were close to them, but Adventure 2 nerfed it so it's only in sequential order. Considering only a couple of Knuckles' stages were unique in 1 and otherwise recycled from Sonic's levels, while everything is much, much larger in 2 and Knuckles gets entirely unique stages, it's pretty clear they were put in to keep players from blazing through the game.
It also doesn't help that, if the theories are true involving old beta stuff and trailers, the game only originally intended for Sonic, Eggman and Knuckles to be playable. Why is Tails in a mech? Why is Rouge saddled with parallel versions of Knuckle's stages besides the infamous vault emerald heist with a timer? Why are all of Shadow's stages reworked from assets of other's? Apparently the characters weren't even meant to be playable and would've been there for story purposes.
Haha lucky charm rating. That's hilarious.
