Carl Katter, the half-brother of Bob, said he was concerned about the "damage this kind of ad can do''."He and rabble of bigots do bother me and I worry for the people that receive the hate that is incited by such ads,'' he said on Twitter."They a(re) using the politics of fear & hate to win vote(s). They truly are desperate to use such grubby tactics!"The advertisement, which went to air last night and has been uploaded toYouTube, targets Australian Greens leader Bob Brown and Queensland Liberal leader Campbell Newman on the issue of gay marriage."How well do you really know Campbell Newman?" a voice asks in the advertisement, which also shows several images of two shirtless men embracing. The picture has been blurred at chest level."Do you really think he will stand up for your family values? Do you really think he will stand up to the Greens and other minority groups?"Then think again. The LNP leader supports gay marriage, just like Greens leader Bob Brown."The commercial features repeated grabs of Mr Newman saying, "I support gay marriage."It ends with a voiceover asking: "Is a vote for Campbell Newman a vote for gay marriage?"The Australian Party's Queensland leader, Aidan McLindon, says the ad is confronting and is meant to be."Campbell Newman has tip-toed on this issue and tried to say 'yes I am for gay marriage' on one hand, but then of course he gets all the Christian lobby groups and says another," he told the ABC.But the commercial has sparked a backlash on social media with Bob Katter trending on Twitter many slamming the party for being "homophobic".The Australian Party says it has already received hate mail and threatening phone calls over a controversial anti-gay marriage advertisement that aired on television last night.Gay rights activist Tony Robertson told the ABC the ad was a disgrace."Katter is using this issue for his own political gain," he said. "This is political opportunism at its worst in the midst of an election campaign."This doesn't tell us anything about what Bob Katter and his or even Campbell Newman and his party intend to contribute to the development of this state.""I don't see the purpose of these advertisements, I don't see what they are contributing to a healthy political debate in our community," he said."I think they are just a waste of money and a waste of time. If they keep running the ads they are going to lose support."
The ad asks how well voters know Mr Newman and features him repeating the words: "I support gay marriage."It also features images of two shirtless men, and Mr Newman handling a skirt. But instead of achieving its goal, the ad has sparked outrage among Queensland's gay and lesbian community and support groups.Equal rights campaigner Phil Browne on Monday lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Bureau, labelling the ad as "vile"."The ad uses fear and hate to target homosexuals, an oppressed minority group," Mr Browne said in his complaint."This is vile and unacceptable."It would be totally unacceptable to use another minority group to promote the same message."Mr Newman told reporters in Brisbane it was "immaterial" that he supported gay marriage but his party didn't.He said the priority should be on looking after "normal Queensland families who need their cost of living pressures reduced right down".But when asked what a "normal family" was, Mr Newman did not exclude same-sex couples from his response."(They are) families who are trying to pay their mortgages, trying to make ends meet, who need low vehicle registration costs frozen," he said.Premier Anna Bligh criticised both the LNP and the party founded by eccentric federal MP Bob Katter. The ad would not have been made if Mr Newman was clear on whether he would repeal Queensland's same-sex civil union legislation, Ms Bligh said."If Mr Newman had given a clear answer on this issue I would suggest it wouldn't be such a big one during the campaign," she told reporters in Brisbane."That doesn't excuse Mr Katter's ad though."But there's nothing surprising about Mr Katter doing something that's bizarre."Katter party spokesman Scott Barrett told AAP the image used in the ad was a bought stock photo and the men were not party supporters.State leader Aidan McLindon last month publicly criticised a billboard promoting safe sex among same-sex couples with an image of two men hugging. The party's gay marriage ad has an image of two men kissing. But Mr McLindon told AAP his party's ad was different from the controversial Rip N Roll campaign because it was shown in PG timeslots only."Billboards are a whole separate issue," he said."You've got everybody from one-year-old right through to 99 years old (seeing them) ... and they can't be censored."Mr Katter's half-brother Carl Katter, who is gay, is also among the ad's critics."This ad ... is totally disrespectful of the many gay Queenslanders who proudly contribute to their state every day of their lives," he said in a statement.Bob Katter told Network Ten he respected his half-brother's position."I admire his candour, his forthrightness in coming forward," he said.
You can watch the advertisment on the site, tbh this fucking disgusts me because it offends not only people who are gay but most of today's modern society. Who gives a fuck if people support gay marriage, is that really an election debate?

Never mind found it
That thumbnail doesn't really make me want to watch the video.
So he basically advertised for his opponent and made himself look like an idiot?
Fucking hell. I though Australians weren't racist/homophobic anymore. I guess it must be Queenslanders, my grandmother is a tiny tiny bit, uhhhh, racist.
Every Australian I've ever met has been to an abnormal extent homophobic, so
v:v:v
Family values is such a bullshit term
I'm Australian and I have a boyfriend.
[editline]12th March 2012[/editline]
And a Queenslander.
Family values is such a bullshit term
you'd think if they valued families, they wouldn't want to keep using their rhetoric which causes families to break up when a member 'comes out' if they valued families they'd want to let people have happy ones but nope. 'family values' now may as well just mean they value hating on people but aren't allowed to go after blacks no more so they'll hate on gays instead
Bob Katter can suck my dick.
Fuck broke my automerge.
That'll teach me for posting drunk.
Queensland is definitely the most homophobic place in Australia. There are quite a few gay guys that I work with and they have been threatened physically a few times during there lunch breaks. Even some guys that arnt gay and like to dress nicely get hassled. If you dont wear board shorts and have tribal tattoos your a homosexual apparently.

Don't be silly, homosexuals don't have families.
katter's a twenty sided die
just wait for him to make another mistake on a completely different topic, it's rather fun really
So he basically advertised for his opponent and made himself look like an idiot?
remember a lot of political and "long term" product advertising advertising draws attention to the problem of the advertisers, rather than what they're promoting
i.e "we banks are part of your world" no you're not you're making millions in minutes
A right wing party ran by a redneck calling out another right wing party over their leader supporting something that easily has majority support in Australia. They're probably going to lose more votes than they gain.
Queensland is such a backwards state.

Actually as a whole Australia is really conservative when it comes to the law because we're just so apathetic about everything
Queensland is such a backwards state.
I still love this state for some reason, probably because of my mates. I would live in Victoria if I had the chance.
Brisbane 4 lyfe
"conservative" is hardly correct.
compared to the U.S. we're like double-eurosocialists.
Edited:
also I've lived in Brisbane for 20 years and not once have I even been harrassed for holding hands with another guy or the like.
"conservative" is hardly correct.

Yes, socially we're forward but our law lags behind our views for various reasons
i.e the Malaysia solution was a terrible, terrible law which is an example of how conservative our laws are.
Family values is such a bullshit term
BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!??!

yep Queensland, I knew it. no other state (maybe NT, but not near as bad as queensland) is this blatantly retarded
Why do they need 2 naked guys to show gay marriage? Pretty sure we don't have a naked man and woman when needing to explain the current marriage state
stupid australian poli's

Rather than having Liberals and Conservatives, we have Liberals and Socalists. Not bad really.
Also yeah, this isn't going to go well. There's only a small percentage of the population that opposes gay marriage and you'd have a hard time finding a young person who does. Because it's a sensitive issue though and it's not at the forefront, if it is possible people usually avoid the topic and stick to not changing rather than taking a position. This can only polarise the public and force them to take a side, which will most likely be against him.
So who's Bob Katter anywa-

Oh, no wonder then
Ugh God, as if I was needed to be reminded about the upcoming QLD Votes. All the candidates are terrible but, I'm going to vote for Newman. Gay marriage is one step forward for this backwards state. We need at least one good thing about it.
Rather than having Liberals and Conservatives, we have Liberals and Socalists. Not bad really.
But "liberal" has a different meaning, Australia's liberals want a liberal (free) market. They're mostly a socially conservative party.
fucking dumb cunts, and I thought this country was spared from dickheads like this.
fucking dumb cunts, and I thought this country was spared from dickheads like this.
Christ no, just look at all the Queensland candidates. I'm glad my birthday is after the election, because I really don't feel like voting.
To give other people how bad this guy is, I know people who are legitimately making plans to leave the state if he's voted for.
Campbell Newman has really dropped the ball on this issue. He was pro marriage equality up until the point that he became the Liberal leader, then he flipped and is now against it. The problem is that when asked about it (like this ad is causing), all he's doing is basically saying "uh, um, uh", it's making him look indecisive.

Who? Newman or Katter?
Family values is such a bullshit term
Being a bitter, prejudicical cunt to the extent of it becoming contagious is what the bible calls family values.... Wait, no it doesn't. I fucking HOPE a rapture soon happens so we can have a world without extremists... Let 'em be raptured then.
