Each Wednesday, barber Anthony Cymerys sets up his chair in the shade of an oak tree in Hartford's Bushnell Park. For longtime clients, the homeless or those just down on their luck, the fee is always the same: a hug for a haircut.
The 82-year-old Cymerys, who is known as Joe the Barber, began offering his services 25 years ago after retiring from a career in business. He had cut hair for his family but decided to put his clippers to work for the less fortunate after being inspired by a church sermon about the homeless.
Leave it to stories like this to leave me teary-eyed and with a fuzzy feeling inside
People who do stuff like this for the less fortunate are the best kind of people

Most people aren't terrible, and many actually try to help each other. Is this news?

Stories like this are much nicer to hear than all the doom and gloom the news always report. I definitely don't mind it.

I like how you managed to make optimism sound cynical.
I wish I had a skill like that, to give back that much to the community like that is something that not a lot of people can really do.

shit like this is MORE than welcome in the news when literally all we hear about is another rights invading bill or a public shooting
I wish we could hear more stuff like this in the news, it's all been pretty much just negativity up the ass and honestly, we as people need to see and hear about stuff like this more often.
Man steals hair from those who have nothing else, more at 11
I love how great the comments are on the source article too! I expected a bunch of people to kick up a fuss (for god knows what reason), but 99% of the comments on this one are lovely
