• What is with FP and hating rap?

A few years ago, I used to be on the same bandwagon as most, saying rap was crap and stuff. Back then I never really gave it a chance. I just never really understood what the rappers were saying and just kind of scoffed off the music. It wasn't until I got my own car and started driving around a lot that I set my radio to a local R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap station 99.3 The Beat That is when I started listening to a lot of R&B and rap. At first I still didn't understand what they were saying, I just mostly enjoyed the energy of most of the songs. As time went on I started to understand what some of the songs were about and really started to enjoy the music. Yeah, I listen to a lot of the "commercial garbage," but I really enjoy some of it. DJ Khaled, B.O.B. (not just his new stuff), and TI are some of my favorite artists. Now I raise a question to you facepunch. Why don't you like rap. And please don't give me that "objectifying women, drugs, sex" garbage cause that kind of stuff has been in Rock forever. I would know, I've been listening to all kinds of rock since I was young. I've been raised on the stuff. And as far as I know, most rap songs are built almost virtually the same way as any other genre. They generally consist of a melody, counter melody, chorus, bridge, outro, etc. Though I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure of it though. I understand if some people just don't like it, but some people seem to not give it a chance at all. Whats up?
Cos most new rap is shit, 80's/90's rap is where it's at.
Thanks for two examples on how not to post. No reasons given at all. At least weekendwarrior was more specific.

People who hate rap have never listened to Triple 6 Mafia.
Khaled just makes me laugh.
It's because all they hear is shit like Lil Wayne and Lil B00zien00ziekaynefuckemmaynekidruckarucka or whatever shitty name most commercial rap artists use these days. Rap like this is acceptable: Rap like this isn't:
Its about sterotypes, its this needless amount of people getting pissed off that drives hiphop down the drain. HipHop these days is not as respected as it was 10 or so years ago
I think the current state of Rap/Hip hop can be summed up in one song [editline].[/editline] automerge :argh:
I don't hate rap, i hate the majority of rap. It's a fact that 80% of it is shit. Some rap is good.

Hiphop used to be about ways of life and derived neighbourhoods and ambition, now they talk about how great they look and how great of a person they are compared to other people Very rare do i see the true spirit of hiphop these days
Listen to the link i posted.
that song sounds like shit

I'll be in the Sky The video is pretty cool too.

Jay Z has still got it after these years, mos def is good and also the guy from outkast, Big Boi. I havent heard his new album yet but its promising
Very rare do i see the true spirit of hiphop these days
Listen to Sage Francis - Best of Times. That song is like a piece of poetry.
;23087878']This
Something rock has been doing since it started? Some of those reasons you list even have roots in Blues which is music about hard times which includes drugs, infidelity, and death. Rock is notorious for being about drugs, sex, killing, and anything you can find in rap. On top of that, you're probably going to say, "Not all rock is like that." Well guess what, not all rap is like that. If you can't find good rap you suck at looking for music imo.

I don't listen to rap for the message, i listen to it for the music, and i'm not talking about the shitty stuff either. I'll take this over that shit any day:
Rap/Hip Hop used to be a ghetto kind off style, like Blues. And that rap I respect.
Something rock has been doing since it started? Some of those even have roots in Blues with is music about hard times which includes drugs, infidelity, and death. But I only really like it because of the tune. [sp]I feel like a hypocrite[/sp]
Listen to rap with an open mind, just dont listen to shit rap that is a bad influence. The culture is very pathetic these days because shit hiphop music mixed with crime and drugs isnt great... Its terrible most of the time, desperate rappers focus just on catchy beats and rhymes rather than concept or any damn influence and a vision and pride.

I have never heard one rock song be about "killin nigga's wit uzi's" or "slappin dat fine bitchez ass". Just admit it, majority of rap is shit.

Its all different just like movies. Different types of art open up new doors.. Try a little harder when understanding music. Just dont listen to the genre called 'noise', i beg of you :smug:

(those two songs i posted were rap) Even if people hate metal saying "its just abunch of yelling", yea, well, atleast the majority of metal is based on serious issues and idealogical beliefs.
Well shit music will always be shit music. 99% of all music ever made isnt great
Well shit music will always be shit music. 99% of all music ever made isnt great
I'd say it's a little lower then that. Not all music from the 18th century and back were great either, i've heard alot of "classics" that were utter shit. View YouTUBE video http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z_ZkUROJ86Y Alot of people might think negatively about that vid that i just posted, but what they don't realize is that it's not stereotypical at all if you actually listen to the fucking lyrics and understand them. It's about the self-schema belief that people have and how even if society deams you intolerable or a waste you can still look at yourself positively and live life happy, and if need be, defend your pride.
Thats decent i liked it, but im not convinced that you arent stereotyped :smug:

Pop Rap is the same as Pop Rock, absolute pandering shit.
