• Can't get into trunk (1987 Toyota Camry LE)

Hello Automotive Addicts, I recently received a 1987 Toyota Camry LE from my great-grandmother. It was in pretty good condition, with everything working. A few months ago, I purchased some things to use in case of a breakdown (jumper cables, etc.) and planned to put them in the trunk. However, I had some trouble getting the trunk open, the key barely turned. Eventually, I turned the key to the left, and the trunk locked. I can't get the trunk open now. Pulling the lever by the driver's seat does nothing - I hear the mechanism move, but the trunk doesn't open. I have bent up one key already trying to unlock the trunk, to no avail. The trunk was accessible before, but it's locked up tight now. So, what can I do now? I went by an auto place and was advised that the rate is $95/hr and they'd have to take apart a lot to get at it. I just want this thing unlocked so I can put things in the trunk, and so I can get to the spare if I need it. Any tips? I can post pictures if you need any.

My sister's junker Rodeo has this problem. The solution usually involves kicking the door lock or the door handle until it loosens, or by constantly pushing the button that opens the trunk. She leaves it unlocked though since it's impossible to open if its locked.
When I first saw the title I thought you didn't fit into the trunk, then read penis colada's reply and was even more distressed. carry on

Sounds like the trunk is just stuck. Try beating it a couple times. I know the hood on my truck likes to get stuck. Although you'll pull the lever and you hear the mechanism unlock, the hood won't open. I end up beating the hood a couple times for it to come lose. I recommend trying the same with your trunk.
My friend's camry has that too. The the metal latch was bent, so if you get it open, bend the latch back, or replace it.
My trunk is fucked up too, to open it, I either need to prop something against the button in the glove box, shove something between the trunk hatch and the gasket underneath, or have someone open the trunk while I hold the button down. I'm pretty sure it doesn't fully close either. I can wiggle the Trunk hatch when it's closed, but I can't open it. And I can shove shit between the hatch and frame underneath all the way through into my trunk. And yet it seems to be water tight, at least mostly.
