Turkish F-16 and F-4 warplanes have bombed Kurdish PKK rebel targets near the Iraqi border, as their ceasefire comes under increasing strain. The air strikes on Daglica were in response to PKK shelling of a military outpost, the armed forces said. Both sides have been observing a truce and it is the first major air raid on the PKK since March 2013. Kurds are furious at Turkey's inaction as Islamic State (IS) militants attack the Syrian border town of Kobane. Fighters from the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) have been aiding Kurdish YPG militia in Kobane and Turkey has refused to help supply its long-standing enemy with weapons or allow Kurdish fighters to enter Syria. ... Separately, some 260 YPG militiamen were arrested when they crossed into Turkey last week, although 60 of them were allowed to go back, Turkish media reported. French President Francois Hollande appealed to the government in Ankara on Tuesday to open its border, as US-led fighter jets continued to target IS fighters in and around Kobane. The air raids on PKK positions near the south-eastern village of Daglica on Monday caused "heavy casualties", Hurriyet daily reported. The strikes followed a three-day PKK assault on a military outpost with heavy machine guns and rocket launchers, it said. Clashes were also reported between the PKK and troops in the Tunceli area of east-central Turkey on Monday, far from the border. Last week Kurdish protests gripped Turkey's Kurdish-majority south-eastern provinces. At least 31 people died in widespread street clashes, as Kurds vented their anger at Turkey's passive policy over Kobane. The army imposed a curfew in some areas. But some of the fighting was reported to be between PKK supporters and Islamist Kurds sympathetic to IS.
BBC [t]http://gdb.voanews.com/25FB9070-F4A2-40B8-AA8B-D8E5FDF75565_mw1024_s_n.jpg[/t] Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels in 2013 I realize this is late now because the thread was buried under a half page of other threads on the search. Sorry.
NATO is fucked. the only thing the turkish government hates more than IS is the kurds. but the truth is that the PKK has the means and legitimacy to fight the islamic state. it's in NATO's best interest to support the PKK but also in NATO's best interests for socialists not to gain power in the region.

Just some clarification.
PKK's reason of Turkey's inaction against ISIS is bullshit. I'd say bombings are justified and Turkey's position on both PKK and ISIS is totally just.
I'm at risk of a derail here but what do you mean by socialists gaining power in the region? Just some clarification.
the PKK are a bunch of dirty commies.
I'm at risk of a derail here but what do you mean by socialists gaining power in the region? Just some clarification.
PKK is a libsoc movement that fights for Kurdish sovereignty. If PKK beats IS, they will use it to try to create a independent Kurdistan
Socialism doesn't mean shit in this, it's just cause Turkey is the only NATO member who actually upholds its military standards and is the 2nd largest army. USA will appease Turkey, not some ragtag Kurd minority.
Then IS will likely be victorious
They most likely will be in the case of the Kurds.
And Turkey, and the USA
PKK's reason of Turkey's inaction against ISIS is bullshit. I'd say bombings are justified and Turkey's position on both PKK and ISIS is totally just.
How is aiding ISIS and bombing the only factions that've been making some progress against them just?
I'll continue to support the PKK through this. Not only would they help fuck up the ISIS, I would love to see a libsoc movement get some ground.
I'll continue to support the PKK through this. Not only would they help fuck up the ISIS, I would love to see a libsoc movement get some ground.
i agree. death to all who stand in the way of obtaining the freedom of working people and whatnot
What do socialists and Kurds have in common? World would be better off without either of them (User was permabanned for this post ("Gimmick" - Swebonny))
i agree. death to all who stand in the way of obtaining the freedom of working people and whatnot
And that officially confirms the source of your avatar. The Free Territory of Ukraine.
Kurdish communists
The article says nothing of the sort, so why was this added to the title?
The article says nothing of the sort, so why was this added to the title?
Americans can't tell the difference between left-wing/socialist/communist/Marxist they have a hard time differentiating between communist and the Soviets.
How is aiding ISIS and bombing the only factions that've been making some progress against them just?
They're Commies or something. I'm not even sure the PKK is still communist. I suspect the name is a hangover from the Cold War.

for people mixing up 'kurds' here:
According to Amnesty International, the PKK killed and tortured Kurdish peasants and its own members in the 1980s. A number of Kurds have been abducted and killed because they were suspected of being "collaborators" or "informers" and it was a common practice for the PKK to kill their whole families.
This behavior has not ceased. Its hard to support the Kurds in this. They're arguing for an ethnic state. Who cares what ethnicity you are?
How is aiding ISIS and bombing the only factions that've been making some progress against them just?
You are misinformed. It has been said many times in other threads I don't really wanna do it again.
