But they say Unbehaun’s willingness to stick up a bank, even though he walks with a cane and has had hip-replacement surgery, shows just how determined he is to stay behind bars, making him a public danger at an age when most criminals have settled down.
“Did the system fail Mr. Unbehaun?,” prosecutor Sharon Fairley wrote in the filing. “We may never know. But, what we do know is, clearly, Unbehaun lacks the desire to lead a law-abiding life outside of prison walls.”
He was was arrested outside a North Chicago motel by FBI agents and Niples police the day after the robbery. Agents received tips from people who had seen media coverage of the robbery, the FBI said at the time.[/QUOTE]

Understandable. He only ever learned how to life in prison, not freedom. I guess it's the other way around when you lived most of your life in freedom and end up in prison for the rest of your life.

most people who have served a large portion of their life in jail pretty much never manages to stay out of jail. understandable, considering they pretty much forget how to "live"
he had to of done something to get that many years in prison

no i'm pretty sure the system did fail mr unbehaun, if the prison system took him in and spit him out unable to cope with life on the outside, ya its failed him and wasted his life. this is exactly why the prison system in the U.S. is so royally fucked up and needs to be refocused on reform and positive life-skills

you can't just lock someone up for 20-30 years, and then suddenly toss him out and expect him to be able to get a job and pay taxes and abide by the law, espeacially with no skills or support behind him

Probably but the US gives life sentences for none-violent crimes. It's court system is also set up so that people have to plead guilty if they don't have an army of lawyers.

Except if you've lost all your ability to deal with a normal life, as we would know it, because you've spent so much time inside , and know that committing crime will put you back where you feel you belong, why would you stop?
Or if you're in for short time, and get treated like shit, it's not hard to feel like society doesn't a shit about you in general, so why should you give a shit about society? May as well take what you can, because regardless if you do or don't you're gonna be fucked over anyway.

but it's more likely they'll pull dumb shit again if you drop them back into the shithole that molded them into criminals while slapping them a criminal record which make his life more shit
our prison system sucks sorry, 'punishment' oriented prisons gets trumped by reform-oriented prisons every time
