Let me start by saying that using it is actually nearly identical to what the company showed off in its newest demo video. That’s not CGI — it’s what Glass is actually like to use. It’s clean, elegant, and makes relative sense. The screen is not disruptive, you do not feel burdened by it. It is there and then it is gone. It’s not shocking. It’s not jarring. It’s just this new thing in your field of vision. And it’s actually pretty cool.
Sounds amazing! I can't see it being widely adopted unless they drive the price down to less than the smartphone itself. It would only be a liability to be wearing a $1000+ thing on your head.
The problem is that they look very ugly.
Edit:
I would still very much want one and try to make my own applications.
Definitely sounds nice, but does it tie in with a smartphone or is it using information from a google plus account? Little unclear towards that.

Either tethered with a smartphone or wifi only
(think its using your google plus info though)

Didnt they just hire some company to redesign it?

I'll hold out for cyborg eyes instead!
But can it scan power levels?
Wait it has to be paired with a smartphone?!
Goddamnit, there goes all my hype. Extremely interested in glass, but I don't own a smartphone nor do I really need one.

There isn't a data chip
did you honestly think you weren't going to need one?

That's like saying you want VR headset, but not if you have to connect to to any videogames.
Yeah this isn't going to be practical for a while. Think of it this way, its going to cost about the same as high end gaming laptop or a macbook pro.
This is a new age for porn movies.
Here’s what you see: the time is displayed, with a small amount of text underneath that reads "ok glass." That’s how you get Glass to wake up to your voice commands. Actually, it’s a two-step process. First you have to touch the side of the device (which is actually a touchpad), or tilt your head upward slowly, a gesture which tells Glass to wake up. Once you’ve done that, you start issuing commands by speaking "ok glass" first
finally people can stop bringing that "I want to be an asshole and tell random strangers' glass to do stuff" picture up

Say that to the people who wore glasses in the 80's.

Yes I did. Naivety at it's highest point. Still after further research, it seems like you only need a smart phone to tether it to 3G or 4G, right?
My whole desire for glass was because I don't own a smart phone.

They said they're going to start selling it this year (By the end of 2013 I believe) and want to get it to as many people as they can.

As many people as they can.. heh they are going to need to make it affordable. I would never walk outside with $1500 glasses.
I actually like the polymer frame they're using, very "Google friendly" colors.
Also, i like the design. I dont think its horrendous. Its just something new.
I mean, none of us is used to seeing a screen in front of someones eye.
holy fucking shit this is it
this is the point where augmentations start becoming mainstream
late 2013 guys
and i will buy one 100%
can anyone tell me how do they see? If I draw near something close to my eyes, it becomes blurred, I have problems with vision? or at all so
This seems like it's going to be the new incarnation for, "Is that a crazy person talking to himself, or does he just have a headset?"
can anyone tell me how do they see? If I draw near something close to my eyes, it becomes blurred, I have problems with vision? or at all so
focal distortion
I'm going to make an educated guess and say there are separate elements of the prism glass in front of the screen, inside the plastic housing. Given specific curvatures, this causes the distance perceived by your eye to be distorted so that you can focus at a point much farther out- potentially at 'infinity' (basically like you're looking at clouds).
[t]http://www.kenrockwell.com/leica/images/50mm-f14/cross-section-1200.gif[/t]
(camera lens section with lens elements)
This way you won't even notice the glass itself since you'll be focused way beyond it to see the data that it will blur away for the most part.
for an existing example of what I mean (kinda), a common technique in photography is known as "focus away the fence". If there's something obtrusive in your way, you can focus straight past it and it will fade away (more or less depending on distance of subject and fence in relation to you)

so imagine a light blurry square around a crisp image that appears to be (let's say) the distance away that your monitor is. Do you have glasses? The frames are out of mind when you're looking thrugh them mostly, and the glasses actually alter your focal distance in a similar fashion
I want to test one out so bad. It's going to be pretty cool stuff.
After seeing more and more pictures of it in use, it actually looks good, and no longer like some gimmicky geek tech. I want to test one so much.
I've wanted one to try since I saw that first vid a few months back.

rumored price is about $300 iirc
You know, I see stuff like that on the news and I constantly think "is this reality? Are we really living through this era?"
This is one to one sci-fi stuff. How lucky are we that we live in a time when we make our own fiction become reality.
finally people can stop bringing that "I want to be an asshole and tell random strangers' glass to do stuff" picture up
People will still find ways to be an asshole.
People will still find ways to be an asshole.
but you'd have to touch the person's head to activate it, at which point you'll get a reaction- especially if they're wearing expensive tech and think you're trying to steal it. MAYBE you can trick someone into doing the look-up gesture, but by then you'll have their attention and it'll be less likely you can get away with it as easily.
