The Senate Intelligence Committee, which is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race, has asked President Trump’s political organization to gather and produce all documents, emails and phone records going back to his campaign’s launch in June 2015, according to two people briefed on the request.
The letter from the Senate arrived at Trump’s campaign committee last week and was addressed to the group’s treasurer. Since then, some former staffers have been notified and asked to cooperate, the people said. They were not authorized to speak publicly.
Dozens of former staffers are expected to be contacted in the coming days to make sure they are aware of the request, the people added.
Things are about to get juicy can't wait
Correct me if I'm wrong; isn't this simply a request for documents? Meaning there's no legal ratification if they choose not to cooperate? Granted it makes them look extremely suspicious in the public eye, but what's to stop them from knit picking through what they (possibly) don't want to be seen?
Again, I'm simply looking for clarification, I'm probably not understanding this fully.

If they refuse, I believe the committee can subpoena them.

Just look at how people treated Hilary over some deleted emails to see the result of his campaign doing that
which they most certainly will do.
With how hard he's fumbled the ball every time it winds up in his hands, I very much suspect Trump will request people to delete those e-mails because 'it's all a witch-hunt folks, believe me'.

Right, I could see the potential pushback if his candidacy and subsequently his presidency were normal, but his supporter base seems to step in line with whatever he says or does.
As Rifleman stated I'm sure they could subpoena the campaign documents, but at this stage it's simply a request and I can't see it as anything other than that. Meaning I wouldn't let this cause any excitement.

If they aren't under subpoena yet, would that mean there's no consequence for destroying evidence/it would be harder to find out if they did? Because I 100% expect them to.

Well you see, they request them nicely and then while they're busy actively destroying documents and flipping shit they subpoena and then charge them with destruction of evidence too.

There's consequence iirc, destruction of evidence should always be a crime regardless of if you're actively being charged because it's your civic duty to hand those documents to law enforcement if you think there's a crime being committed. I think however, that the destruction of evidence charge has to come after the actual criminal charge, but idk.
Knowing Trump and his team not being so bright, they can try to destroy the evidence and probably will end up leaking it instead. Or rather they'll find a way to get it anyway.

Just say on twitter he isn't smart enough to collude with russia.
he'll fire back within moments and hang himself.

If they destroy evidence then it'll be obvious since they already have some amount of their documents on hand. In that case, arrests will be made for obstruction of justice. Destroying evidence is not a crime I would fuck with.

I hope they're thorough. I can see the end of this farce coming, and I can't wait.

"The Trump investigation are going to turn up nothing!" says increasingly nervous trumptard for the 8th time.
"This farce" being this administration. I completely agree, glad you feel the same.
Chonch is finally talking sense.

Glad I'm not the only one, I'll be ecstatic to see the end of this corrupt administration.
If they refuse, I believe the committee can subpoena them.
the republicans have to sign on to that, so far they won't. mueller though has independant authority to subpoena so at least theres something

I wonder, what if they confirm everything?
At that point, would you go "Good on Trump! Using all the resources available to him to MAGA! Even if those resources are Russian hackers"
These things always bother me, why does anyone suspect any documents relating to this still exist? The first thing I would do if I received this notice is burn every last letter. Are the backups and such that can't be touched?
