• Should Counterproductive-to-Society Parents be punished?

By this I mean parents who teach their kids racist ideas or hateful thoughts. Parents who even tell their kids to just sit on their asses and collect welfare even or promote crime. Anything that hurts humanity in general counts, even the smallest things (common sense, not picky standards like holding doors). An example of what I mean: http://www.snipeme.com/archive.php?year=2005&deargalen=breakthecycle I believe if you teach your kids to hate a race or culture then it should be punishable by a warning, then surveillance, and if still the parents persist the child should be taken away and put into foster care. You can't imprint that stuff on a child, it's borderline sabotage if you look at it a certain way.
yes So many kids around here are told to claim benefits and fake a disability. Their parents have effectively stopped them from being able to want or have any chance of success. [editline]3rd January 2012[/editline] also that story is fucking horrible
i don't think so, parents should be free to raise their offspring how they see fit it's terrible that people are raising their children like this, but not only is it penalizing parents for going against what society sees fit, it would also be difficult to enforce, i know plenty of people who's parents have beaten them or each other, but nothing could be done about it because it was behind closed doors, and the children would be pressured into not telling anyone, peers or otherwise i'm almost certain the father in the OP is committing a crime of some sort anyway
Well, they shouldn't be punished but I definitely do disagree with such people. That would violate freedom of expression, and honestly a society where you are forced to think in a certain way (even if it's good) is simply wrong. It would be alot like schools teaching kids to follow Christianity and abstain from teaching different beliefs, an idea which (rightfully) most people here on Facepunch would be disgusted at. What should happen though is that throughout the whole course of say K-6 at schools is have a class devoted entirely to things such as society and cultures or something like that, where for example kids are encouraged to tolerate all races, to think of each gender as equals, to not discriminate against others, to not commit crime and so on. However, I'm sure more things can be fit into such a class as well. Note the "encourage". I'll give you an ideal scenario: During a lesson about stealing, a teacher mentions a scenario where a man breaks into a store at night. The teacher would then say it is wrong because the man is stealing something from the person who owns the store, and the owner of the store is affected by that. So in the end it causes harm, and friends of the man are likely to look down on him if they knew he stole from there, because as said the owner is affected by the thief. The thing with teaching about this thing is that the kids can still think what they want to think (and that should be the first thing taught in the class, that they are free to hold their own beliefs), un-like punishing the parents of the kid which is like punishing for thoughtcrime. But anyways I think the problem may be that schools abstain from teaching these kinds of things, or at least don't do it enough.
It should be. I know way to many people with shit parents, and it pisses me off. My best friend has an abusive old non-working fuck as a father. His mother is a heavy drinker that just went to jail recently, for assault. These people don't deserve children.
