(CNN) -- Willem-Alexander was sworn in as the first Dutch king in more than 120 years on Tuesday after his mother, Queen Beatrix, abdicated the throne, ending 33 years as the country's monarch.
german on the throne
And then, Nothing changed.
Something did change, Queens day changed into kings day.
God beware de koning
The news coverage of this on Nederland 1 was so damn stupid. "He is holding Maxima's hand very tightly, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!?"
I wanted it to be King Willem Dafoe
Maxima is hot.

Polls show more than 82% of dutch people think that song is a disgrace to our very excistance. Don't laugh, cry, cry with us.

18% of Dutchmen should get their citizenship revoked for high treason

Yet they still let it go on, why couldn't they just write a different song?!
Yet they still let it go on, why couldn't they just write a different song?!
They already wasted 150.000 euro's on it. And it's not like it matters what we the people think.

Ye guess you're right. It's over now anyway, so yea.

Is this the song that I read or heard somewhere that prince (well king now I guess) Willem himself hates?

I don't know if Willem himself hated it, but the public mostly did.
I will never understand all this kings and queens affair
First Dutch king since 1890. Royalty are walking mascottes for their country nowadays, which is good. They play a nice role in international relations.

Come to Argentina sometime.
Bs As, Rio Negro and Cordoba.
Prince Charles was looking pretty sweet for the ceremony

He just looks tired of the stupid hats :v:
I chuckled when Charles stopped to take a subtle look at the crown while walking to his seat.
The 'Koningslied' was terrible as expected and Armin van Buuren couldn't think of something else than his same cheesy old style for our new king. Even funnier was that the first 10-15 minutes he was clearly moving to the music while there wasn't any playing at all (except for the orchestra which was already playing).
Either he didn't notice his mistake because he was wearing headphones or it was an error in the television broadcast.
GEEN BAARD GEEN KONING.

Actually I don't think it's that bad for a love song. For a song dedicated to a king it's horribly inappropriate though.
Seriously, cut out the hilariously stupid raps and you have yourself a decent song that has absolutely nothing to do with any member of royalty.

no seriously, I didn't mean this as "hurr monarchies r stupid!!11" I just don't really get what place or relevance they currently hold in the political affairs of the countries that still have monarchies.

They should've just asked Sabaton to make it for them

The Dutch monarchy is fucking huge for our economy actually. I'm as for a Republic as you can get, but the fact they bring us so much money is not something you can ignore.

They make trade easier, apparently. According to some show that was on here (the UK) about a week ago a lot of the UKs trade with the UAE came about easily due to the Queen going over there and being nice and sociable.
At the end of the day (in a western monarch anyway) they are just permanent ambassadors really, they go around and represent their country in a way that no elected person could.
(Also I like to think they are a nice barrier between a government going full-retard. I mean I know they pretty much have zero power but its nice to think that barrier is there)
It's not much different to how the German or Italian presidencies work, except the position is hereditary and not elected by a committee, either way neither get elected by the people, but the head of government (the one with the actual power) does
Also, at least in Belgium, the King has the right to warn or encourage politicians. The fact that he's been in politics for his entire life can actually be useful in political deadlock situations, as he can steer the politicians into conceding for the greater good.
