Police have yet to identify the cause of the blast, they said in a statement. "The local and expert examination of the origins of the explosion and the review of the damage is under way," the statement said. (...) News website index.hu quoted an email from an eyewitness, who said he saw a nail lodged in a taxi nearby. Photos also showed a few nails on the ground with police chalk marks around them.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/25/explosion-in-hungary-kills-two-police-officers/ Happened yesterday night. Originally suspected to be a gas leak, later turned out to possibly be a bomb. Supposedly the police officers approached a suspicious bag left at a busy intersection and were the only ones hit by the subsequent explosion. worth it to mention many people say it is a false flag to incite more "no" votes on the referendum but that's stupid because everyone was gonna vote no anyways
Thank god that the police officers were only injured. I hope they have a speedy recovery and that the perpetrator of this attack is caught.

Hungary will say Fuck the EU and not take refugees?
Well shit, here we go again.
Thank god that the police officers were only injured. I hope they have a speedy recovery and that the perpetrator of this attack is caught.
Injuries are always played down in the news or not further described but damage to a human being has been done and we don't know about their condition.
With the wording on that referendum, if I were Hungarian I'd vote no too, even though I would be for refugees in Hungary. Giving EU the power to "mandate" taking in refugees is different than giving EU the power to force Hungary to obey pre-agreed upon obligations. EU shouldnt be able to enforce anything but what the country has agreed upon before.
Well the EU measures exist to begin with because Hungary responded to the whole refugee situation with one big, unanimous "fuck it" and closed the borders to all asylum seekers, which the EU didn't like.
I was two houses down at a pub when this happened, after hearing the explosion we ran on the street and saw smoke and two people lying there (we didn't know they were officers at that time). The paramedics arrived pretty quick and everyone went back to finish their drinks (this is the party district) until the police told us we have to leave the building. There wasnt really panic, just confusion, at that point people assumed it was a gas leak or some kind of suicide attempt. Later that night I saw reports about bent nails found at the scene, which is suspicious but then again the location doesn't add up: it's an abandoned store, meanwhile few steps away there are quite a few pubs, restaurants and a tram stop. In about half an hour there will be a press conference, I'll send an update. [editline]25th September 2016[/editline] UPDATE - Police press conference The female officer sustained life threatening wounds but both are in stable condition now. It was confirmed it was a homemade exploding device with nails added as fragmentation, gas leak is not possible because of the direction of the explosion. The chief of police said the targets were specifically the two officers, they were patrolling on their usual route.
Christ I was there in Central Budapest a little over a week ago. I'm glad the officers weren't killed.
They already have a suspect, Male, 20-25 years old, 170cm. They're even offering a bounty for the guy.
