How long before nintendo strikes down with the dmca hammer?
That looks like way too much rim lighting on a lot of the materials.
It doesn't look like Mario's pelvis moves at all during the running anim. It looks really odd. Other than that I think it looks good for an unfinished project!
Wait, is it not an unfinished project?
It's not the best looking but it's still pretty cool seeing Mario 64 look like that

It could have been going for the Super Mario Galaxy style.

they haven't brought down the dmca hammer on MOTHER 4 yet but they might just not really care about the MOTHER series in general anymore
if you think about it the bob-ombs were having all out class warfare in super mario 64
Nice for an alpha, not gonna complain about it too much because of that but still Mario's idle animation is almost completely static that it's scary
The Unity engine is a fantastic engine in my opinion.
Cool! Maybe fill the skies in a bit more with clouds and whatnot. Looks a little empty but really nice.
Was expecting something when you got 100 coins, and was not disappointed.
Pretty much looks like Mario 64, but with Galaxy style visuals.
While I doubt anything will come from it, it's essentially a nice representation of just how versatile Unity is as an engine.
Reminds me, what's been going on with that Mario 64 re-make being made entirely in Blender (as in Blender's game engine and all)?

I think nintendo just likes to watch from the sidelines when it comes to the MOTHEr fanbase in the west
like they didn't do shit about the MOTHER 3 fan translation, in fact some nintendo employees outright praised it and mato's team
[editline]28th March 2015[/editline]
also the character controller feels really good in the demo, even with a keyboard it's an absolute joy to play
The style doesn't fit at all. This looks more like a mario galaxy retro level.
I like the style, I look very forward to this!
i like how few frames the running animation has
It still has that hard to describe ugliness that says "oh, yeah, this was made in Unity" but I am pretty impressed with how well he replicated the jumping mechanics.

I think it's more ugliness that comes from not being a professional developer, which you'll get in any engine. You just see it more in unity because that's the go-to, free platform for indie developers.
But personally I think this looks fantastic. It's not like the original game gave much to go on in the first place.

Their PR will be hit by a shitstorm if they show that they care enough about the Mother series to DMCA a fan work, but not enough to release Mother 3 even on virtual console.

I honestly wonder what would happen if all these fan-made projects that keep getting striked down had just fully developed it and then released it on torrents with no author, no credits, and full source code. What could anybody even do about it?

It would be out in the wild, you can't stop people from finding it and downloading it.
This should be fine, though, they haven't C&Ded Mother 4 or the various Pokémon fangames over the years (or even Project M and they've had ample time to get rid of that directly)
Yeah I always thought Nintendo doesn't mind fan-made content, but it's weird because of their video policies.

This is an actual remake though, rather than an 'original' creation. I think it could be in danger of getting C&D'd because of that.
Although I guess Project M could also be considered just as eligible due to using actual assets from Brawl, while it looks like this uses original assets.
It seems more like a 'this works' sort of remake test thing as an example of effort and work, rather than something like the Chrono Trigger remake scenario.

It's kind of like those people who use Bootstrap. If you don't change it enough, it looks really generic and boring.
Demonstration project for the Super Character Controller, a recreation of Super Mario 64’s first level, Bob-Omb Battlefield. Everything is just as you remember, except some really minor stuff that nobody cared about like red coins or the Wing Cap or the Big Bob-omb. Replacing them are crowd pleasers like giant springs and coin blocks.
...
I currently do not have any plans to develop this any further or to resolve any bugs, unless they’re horrendously gamebreaking and horrendously simple to fix. This project is provided as-is, and you are free to use it for any purposes you like, with the exception of selling it for profit. All included code libraries’ previous licences still apply.
Why is there a stigma against unity
Why is there a stigma against unity
It's a free engine that's also beginner friendly, so people see all the beginner projects and think that's all it can do. You can do great things with unity, it's just about how you use it.
