The giant cephalopod swam under some fishing boats, remaining close to the surface in the bay for several hours. A submersible camera was used to gather rare video footage of the tentacled sea dweller.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/giant-square-makes-rare-up-close-appearance-off-japanese-shore/ Looks great on a plate!
It's almost surreal seeing it that close and in that much detail
I'm surprised they didn't kill it.
Giant squid are so cool. I'm glad we're finally starting to unravel their world. Onward to the Collosal squid.
Looks great on a plate!
Yeah, you can't eat those.
It's seeking its natural prey: Japanese animated high school girls.
So what do they eat? Because I doubt they eat small prey like a whale would
I'm surprised they didn't kill it.
I'm surprised they haven't started making colossal squid hentai.
It's really cool, but I have this stupid fear of them. Like I really hate the idea of being out in the ocean and thinking of these things could be anywhere. I know it's silly, but fuck they are scary.

So the Kraken is real then.
Aww, I want to hug it. And swim along with it. Love squids and octopi.

Giants eat fish and other squid. Just like other species of squid. [editline]28th December 2015[/editline] Though they do have epic battles with their main predator, the sperm whale.

Goddamn, that's a lot of calamari. Awesome to see such a creature alive and in great detail.
Nintendo's new viral marketing campaign for Splatoon.
I'm almost positive this is their way of first contact, these things eluded scientists for decades and only was first videotaped a few years ago, now one just casually comes up for everyone to see Douglas Adams never said squids weren't as intelligent as dolphins Now if you excuse me I'm off to buy more tinfoil before the NSA's stingrays pickup my thoughts
I'm surprised they haven't started making colossal squid hentai.
Knowing the Japanese and the Internet, it probably already exists...
Aww, I want to hug it. And swim along with it. Love squids and octopi.
Well it might eat you... or rape you like Dolphins do.
Knowing the Japanese and the Internet, it probably already exists...
Wasn't there some ancient Japanese art depicting a woman having sex with a squid? It's literally part of their history.
Interesting, the guy in the video mentioned they tried to guide the squid out of the harbor but it only kept mingling with the divers the suction cups actually hurts to remove when stuck
Wasn't there some ancient Japanese art depicting a woman having sex with a squid? It's literally part of their history.
If you're talking about The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife then that was made in 1814, hardly ancient.
Wasn't there some ancient Japanese art depicting a woman having sex with a squid? It's literally part of their history.
See, when people say we fucked them up when we bombed them they conveniently forget The Dream Of The Fisherman's Wife. (that's the title by the way, google it) There's also one where this chick is flying away while she's fighting off a giant snake's sexual advances or some shit I don't really remember what was going on there. I'm not actually sure if there's some sort of deeper meaning to all of this, like they're some sort of visual haiku proto-hentai that's concealing some deep life lesson about how you shouldn't neglect your samurai swords or something, but I do know they're fucking hilarious on a superficial level. Also I recall one where there was some chick pouring a huge keg of booze or milk or whatever into this bowl this armored goblin man had, I assume that one is literally about getting completely fucking smashed but I might be mistaken. [editline]29th December 2015[/editline] Long story short is Japan's been weird for awhile and it's cool to look through other culture's artwork and try to figure out what the hell is happening. [editline]29th December 2015[/editline] I want to believe that there's some deep meaning to these, but I also equally want to believe that there's an implied meaning and really there was a secret cabal of Japanese guys who drew weird shit and laughed at all the retards trying to make sense of it.
Giant squid are so cool. I'm glad we're finally starting to unravel their world. Onward to the Collosal squid.
What if those are baby colossal squids?
Giant squid are so cool. I'm glad we're finally starting to unravel their world. Onward to the Collosal squid.
Yes, to search for the majestic kraken...
I saw squid while snorkeling in St Thomas, I thought they were those sea flatworm things because I saw the edges of them ruffling in the current but when I got closer I saw the little tentacles (they were only about 1ft long each max) and noticed there was 4 in a line, a large one in the front, two small ones in the middle and a middle sized one in the back, like a family. When I got too close they turned from black to a color that matched the blue light on the sand and pretty much turned invisible and darted away. I did manage to see them swimming (though it was hard as hell, their camouflage is so effective it's amazing) and they managed line formation! I was really excited to have seen one of my favorite animals.
What if those are baby colossal squids?
Their anatomy is completely different, and you can determine age by growth rings on the beak similar to a tree. Notice the barbed cups on the tenticles.
It's not silly, the deep sea is fucking creepy. We essentially know next to nothing about what's down there. :tinfoil:
I've always been scared of giant squid because when you hear that name the first thing that springs to mind is "size of a fucking ocean liner" however now that I know that the whole upper "head" of a squid is about the same size or just a but smaller than yer average man it's put these fears to bed somewhat. I still have a primal fear of deep open ocean, probably because humans are not adapted to swim in any regard. Sure we can swim, and some humans can swim very very well... for humans but any other predator is far better adapted to living down there than we are. If you were caught in the water with... lets say a shark, you can't see that far in seawater, even if you have goggles on, A shark can detect you from a few miles away, a shark can move MUCH faster than you, a shark is much more quiet moving through the water than you are and a shark is often-times camouflaged in with the ocean. The only place I want to take a look at the deep sea is from the INSIDE of a nuclear submarine thanks.

[editline]28th December 2015[/editline] Though they do have epic battles with their main predator, the sperm whale.
Don't pretty much all animals happen to eat quite a few random other species as well, not on their usual range of meals? I mean, especially in the the sea? The only thing I've seen in documented footage are things so hungry they will eat you down to the last nutritive fragment. (A whale corpse on the seafloor is party time.) So, surely giant squids might also eat crabs, or manta rays or something? I like to think they do, since even deer have been witnessed eating birds. Or grown male ducks cannibalizing on smaller ducklings in a public park. Anything goes these days I tell you..
