A Kildare farmer is the proud owner of a rare hybrid between a goat and a sheep. The half-goat half-sheep, which is known as a ‘geep’, was born to a ewe on Paddy Murphy’s farm two weeks ago today. Paddy, who also owns Murphy’s pub in Ballymore Eustace, said the ‘geep’ has thrived since birth. “He’s absolutely thriving,” Paddy told RTÉ News. “He’s running around a lot quicker than the other lambs which were born. He has much longer legs” “The ewe has taken to him like he’s just another lamb. There’s no difference in how he’s been reared.”
Didn't even think such a thing was possible but, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheep%E2%80%93goat_chimera Also "geep" lol.
Get a bunch of fertile ones and breed them to see what happens
Hybrid animals are nearly always sterile.
I so hope this is the next evolution of sheep. I call it, sheep 2.0.
Hybrid animals are nearly always sterile.
There was a case of a fertile geep though. See the wiki page.
uhhh i can explain
I didn't know you were welsh.

So how does this happen? I guess if species are closely enough related its possible? Or would it be some genetic mutation in the father or the mother that allowed fertilization of the egg to happen?

how close is a sheep and goats dna? Like is there an ape or something that has enough similarity in dna as a human that I could make a baby with?

Since scientist like to experiment with everything I wonder why no one else tried it ? If someone succeed imagine the reactions in the world, the Church and conservative people ? It would be chaos.
