Apple's building a TV, and it will be powered by Siri.
Steve Jobs' "I've finally cracked it" comment to Walter Isaacson, Bilton says, was referring to the TV interface, not the actual TV set. Instead of having a pile of remotes on our coffee tables, or an absurdly complicated remote keyboard like the one Google uses with Google TV, we'll just tell Siri what you want to watch. And Siri will play it
Based on our mixed experience with Siri so far, we'd be surprised if "she" was the only interface with Apple's iTV, as we're assuming it will be called. Business Insider's gadget god, Steve Kovach, says iPhones and iPads will also likely be usable as remotes. That will be handy in case you can't get Siri to understand what you want. ... or if you just feel ridiculous talking to your TV.
Either way, that ridiculous pile of remotes and boxes that surrounds your TV will, hopefully, soon be a thing of the past.
We're projecting the iTV will be announced in the fall of 2012, so you can buy one with your holiday shopping.
And people are going to say Apple did Smart TV's first, despite Smart TV's existing for a while already and GoogleTV using Android. *sigh* If you care about more details they are in the source.
Once again, It's going to be an overpriced piece of shit that can't withstand a fall from 2 feet.
The first generation actually cannot view TV. It's a feature!

Introducing our new new AppleTV!
It's going to crash and burn like AppleTV.

If it's shiny and has a fruit logo, it will not.
iTV?
Sorry apple , I think that name's already been taken
The 2012 release date makes me doubt the legitimacy of this claim because Apple nominally adds a new product about every 3 years. AppleTV/iPhone in 2007, iPad 2010, iTV? 2013, I even remember reading that it was apple's plan to do this 3 year thing. However, that could have been a thing of the Jobs era so Tim Cook could have decided to speed up development.
Its going to be really interesting to see what they do because the TV market is a completely different animal then Computers, Phones, or MP3 players.

Yep, interactive Television. iTV. Exactly that. And pretty sure someone already copyrighted that.
Copyright Wars!

Is 'interactive' what the i in Apple products stood for?

So that's why it didn't sell, it's not shiny enough!
HELLO APPLE! Samsung and Sony made the first internet smart TV. You are two years too late Apple. Somebody tell them they are late

Samsung, Sony, LG patent your Smart TV now!

Samsung, Sony, LG patent your Smart TV now!
Right they where first but they are also terrible. At home I have a Samsung TV, a Samsung Blu-ray player, and a Samsung Surround Sound (yay bundle deals). However, all 3 have the same slow and unruly interface even after multiple software updates.
So this is going to be an actual television? As opposed to AppleTV just being a medium for watching movies/TV shows and streaming from your iTunes library and iDevices?

yeah but the original is really awful. apart from the James Bond movies now and again.

It like WebTV however was a total failure.
