Trump made his position clear at a White House meeting with congressional leaders on Wednesday, agreeing with Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) by voicing support for a three-month bill to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling for the same amount of time. “We had a very good meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer,” Trump told reporters Wednesday on Air Force One while traveling to North Dakota. “We agreed to a three-month extension on debt ceiling, which they consider to be sacred — very important — always we’ll agree on debt ceiling automatically because of the importance of it.” Trump said the package should also include funding for Hurricane Harvey relief. The president’s decision came barely an hour after House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) panned the idea of a brief debt hike, accusing Democrats of “playing politics” with much needed aid for Hurricane Harvey victims by trying to create pressure for their agenda.
:snip:
I don't know what to expect anymore really
Trump: "I'll show you guys. I'll show you guys just how little I need you! You don't want to play ball with me? That's fine, I'll just go to the Democrats."
Trump: "I'll show you guys. I'll show you guys just how little I need you! You don't want to play ball with me? That's fine, I'll just go to the Democrats."
Maybe he just wants to be able to fund more vacation traveling with government money. I mean, this is a bid to raise the debt ceiling and fund the government, after all. :v:
This impeaches the Trump
What kind of days of our lives soap opera shit is this?
This nine dimensional volleyball is getting slightly out of hand.
Trump: "I'll show you guys. I'll show you guys just how little I need you! You don't want to play ball with me?
“We had a very good meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer"
Seems to me like some people have figured out how to talk to Trump. "Obama wouldn't have done this." :v:
If Trump doesn't support a debt ceiling hike without regressive cuts that would provoke aggressive Democratic boycotting, the potential that the government would shut down and America default on its loans is not only real but the blame would fall on Trump and Congressional Republicans -- and considering the consequences are potentially catastrophic for the global economy, even King Tinyhands isn't dumb enough to think he can survive that without calls for impeachment becoming too loud for the House to ignore. Trump needs a win, and letting the government shut down and be unable to pay its debts would not be a win in any capacity despite Trump's threats earlier in the year that "maybe the government needs a good shutting down" to bring it in line with his legislative agenda. Republicans can't deliver him a win and they've been balking at giving him what he wants when he demands funding for the wall or to revive ACA repeal. He has learned that he is the slave, not the master.

Can't wait to see t_d supporting the democrats now

But how unpopular can Trump get?
I wonder what would happen since the last time the government shut down the popularity of the opposition that initiated it tanked hard. But how unpopular can Trump get?
Trump would try and shift the blame to Congress because he's pathologically incapable of accepting personal responsibility for failure. A significant portion of his core voter base would probably stay with him because they're in the Cult of Donald. I'd be surprised if his popularity dipped below 20% unless he disavows the anti-immigrant stealth-racist America First policies Bannon was there to push. Until Fox News and Breitbart fully turn against him, he'll always have fans living in echo chambers.
Trump said the package should also include funding for Hurricane Harvey relief.
is this bad wording or does it seem like he doesn't even remember that it already has harvey funding? its easy to shut down the government when poor and people on welfare are going to suffer, apparently not so easy when theres hundreds of thousands of people sleeping in emergency shelters
is this bad wording or does it seem like he doesn't even remember that it already has harvey funding?
Well, they aren't actually attached together yet, but with Trump's buy-in the Senate is going to go ahead and staple the debt ceiling/government funding to the House's Harvey aid package bill:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said he would add provisions extending government funding and the debt limit through mid-December to legislation passed by the House on Wednesday to provide $7.85 billion in Hurricane Harvey relief. “The president agreed with Sen. Schumer and Congresswoman Pelosi to do a three-month [funding extension] and a debt ceiling into December, and that’s what I will be offering based on the president’s decision, to the bill. And we’ll try to get 60 votes and move forward,” McConnell told reporters Wednesday afternoon. “The president can speak for himself, but his feeling was that we needed to come together to not create a picture of divisiveness at a time of genuine national crisis. And that was the rationale.” The president’s decision came barely an hour after House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) panned the idea of a brief debt hike, accusing Democrats of “playing politics” with much needed aid for Hurricane Harvey victims.
House Republicans were trying to demand that the debt ceiling bill include severe spending cuts, so they don't get to cry when Democrats attach unrelated bills together because they can deliver the President the votes he wants when the Republican contingent refuses to care for its people. What's good for the gander is good for the goose. :v:
Debt is the one thing that trump seems to understand very well.
Except in reverse this time I guess.
So you either die a villain, or live long enough to see yourself become the hero?

The US debt ceiling is kinda baffling to me. Congress passes a budget with a deficit. Then they act all surprised when they have to raise the arbitrary debt ceiling, and depending on who's in the white house, they'll call the president fiscally irresponsible for good measure. Am I missing something or is this truly nothing but a pointless merry-go-round?

To make it worst theres no term limits so these worthless idiots usually never lose their jobs.
God, he can't even fuck up properly.
