Hey I see a bunch of guitarists and metal diehards out on this forum. But the question is--are there any real classic jazz or big band enthusiasts out there?? i know it might not be everyones' thing, but I also play the alto sax in high school and it's really made me appreciate jazz a lot. also fallout 3 galaxy news radio/bioshock ingame tunes/gta4 jnr radio jazz.

So your thoughts? (yes i am new here, sorry if i did anything wrong)
Yes.
It's not that uncommon to like Jazz.
I love more contemporary Jazz or bands with Jazz influences, and I also love big bands.
Got to love the Cat Empire, the Detroit Experiment or someone like Brian Setzer and his Orchestra (rockabilly big band).
I enjoy both metal and jazz. BIG SURPRISE!
I love big band
I play in a stage band, I love it.
I like Jizz but don't really listen to it much. I don't consider Opeth Jazz but they have some elements in it that could be considered Jazz. Also; Wayd. Death Metal + Jazz. Mixes pretty well actually.

Yeah love jazz. i study jazz and play double bass in 2 bands. i enjoy some of the essentials like miles davis, coltrane, art blakley, dizzy gilespy, charlie mingus, thelonious monk. Plus some fusion like Herbie Hancock and weather report.
Jazz is god.
I think it's probably one of my favourite genres :)
Also, you all can't deny the strong Jazz influences Atheist had in their brand of Death metal.

But anyways, my favorite jazz musician is clearly Charles Mingus. His bass was godly.
The 60s and 70s are where jazz is at, with stuff like Modal Jazz, Latin Jazz, Free Jazz and Fusion. Favourite jazz musician would have to be Johnny Coltrane. And more recently, The Cat Empire.
Also, if you can, check out some of the fundamentals of jazz form and harmony. Really interesting stuff.
yes
just got into these guys:

Dunno, i'm quite diggin' some of the really early 20s-30s stuff, although I've not got much of it. It's real chillout music.
Yeah love jazz. i study jazz and play double bass in 2 bands.
Bastid! Always wanted to pick up double bass, but the instrument is just so expensive to get you started!
I find it really close-minded of people when they only like one genre of music, you gotta' branch out.
But anyway, yeah, i play alto sax as well, it does force jazz onto you a bit.
People find it kinda' weird when i tell them that i'm into alternative/progressive/thrash/technical/melodic etc metal, but i also love country, classical, ambient, world, jazz and reggae.
I love having the liberty to listen to all kinds of different stuff.
I had a jazz/big band phase when I heard the stuff from fallout
but I'm over it now
just not the same feeling I get from rockin' out
Jazz is my favourite genre, so yes.

You're not really unique.

When did i say i was unique? Far from it compared to a lot of other people. "/
My friends just find it weird 'cause they all only listen to the same kind of popular indie stuff.

Oh, I see what you are saying.
I love jazz. I play the trumpet in my highschool jazz band, and I also do a lot of jazz outside of that. I was in the first junior high-age jazz band to perform at a national jazz festival! Best day of my life. So, yes. I love jazz. Clifford Brown is... absolutely incredible.
Gene Krupa, yo.

Also it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing
hell yes! jazz rox
Hell yeah man.
I tried joining my schools jazz band, but all they play are the rather boring soft jazz ballads. So I decided not to join.
What do you play?
Dumb rating? Soft jazz is terrible, there is no soul to the music.
Miles Davis :3
Buddy Rich! Channel one suite is the best.
